Paul Bombaci Obituary

Paul Joseph Bombaci, 57, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband and father passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at Hartford Hospital.

Born Sept. 12, 1958, in Hartford, Paul was the son of Joseph and Ida Bombaci. He grew up in Hartford with his brother, Roy. Paul graduated from South Catholic High School and later earned his college degree from Central Connecticut State University. He was currently employed as a computer programmer at General Electric in Plainville. Paul also worked at Ames in Rocky Hill and C&S Wholesale Grocers in Keene, New Hampshire.

Paul was a kind and devoted family man, who loved nothing more than simply spending time with his wife, Neila, his children, and his granddaughter. He had a very competitive nature and enjoyed nothing more than playing various card and board games with his family and friends. He also loved to roller blade and play hockey.

Paul is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Neila (Horgdal) Bombaci; three children, his daughter, Jessica Connor, and son-in-law, Ryan Connor; and two sons, Jonathan Bombaci and Jared Bombaci; and his granddaughter, Izzy Connor. He also leaves to mourn his mother, Ida Longo Bombaci; his brother, Roy Bombaci; and two nephews, Zack and AJ Bombaci.

Paul was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer over four years ago and defied his prognosis with the help of the incredible staff at Boston Mass General Hospital Cancer Center.

The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses at MGH and Hartford Hospital, who helped Paul and his family when they needed it the most. One day we will beat cancer.

Friends and relatives are invited to Giuliano-Sagarino Funeral Home at Brooklawn, 511 Brook St., Rocky Hill, Friday, Nov. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. William Veinot officiating. Burial will be private.

Those wishing to donate the family recommends Mass General Cancer Center or The Shriners Foundation.

Had to say goodbye to a very good person this week. My step children's Father and a very good friend. My wife Lisa and Paul raised 3 beautiful children. I know he is looking over all of us now and is very proud of all of them and their accomplishments. He fought a very courageous fight over the last 4 years being diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. He lived life to the fullest to the very end. He will be missed by many. May he rest in peace. To hear my stepson Jon speak of his Dad at the service I needed to add this because this was is sentiment. But he wasn't around, and that's the thing when a parent die's, you feel like instead of going in to every fight with backup, you are going into every fight alone. Paul aka "B" You will be missed more than you will ever know! Thanks for many year's of friendship. Rick & Lisa Nisula

Dear Neila and Family--We didn't know Paul for very long but the man that we did know was a true lover of life and of those in his life. He was a thinker, a dreamer and a man that never seemed to complain despite his illness. May all the memories that you have of Paul help you through your times of sadness and may they even lead you to times of laughter. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Paul's passing today. My deepest condolences to the entire Bombaci family. I first met Paul in scouts in the mid 70's at the South Congregation Church on Main St. in Hartford. A little later on we played hockey together for years. And I have great memories from those days. I haven't seen Paul in years but, I can truly say he was one of the most stand up people that I ever met.

Jessica, Jonathan and Jared,

So sorry to hear of your father's passing. It may have been years ago, but I have the most vivid memories of watching your dad play with you (and the rest of us kids!) all over our beach in Old Saybrook...making huge sandcastles, pulling you on Tonka trucks, and slamming us with buckets of water!! Your father is the most active dad I've ever seen and I'm truly sorry that you had to lose him so early. Sending lots of love your way!

Xoxo,
Alissa Santiago & family

I was so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. I had the privilege of working with him at both Ames and C&S. As we go through life there are times when individuals outside our sphere of close friends and family still make a deep impression. Paul was such a person. His dedication and devotion resonated with a quiet dignity. Both at Ames and C&S, mention of him would evoke the observation, "Paul, he's a good guy." My deepest condolences. May the abundance of memories of a life well lived eclipse the sorrow of your loss.

Mrs. Bombaci, Roy and the entire Bombaci family. You have my and my entire family's heartfelt sympathy and prayers during this difficult time. I remember Paul from our childhood days. He was always friendly, a good athlete and a smart guy. I have no words to ease your pain but I believe that Paul is in a place where pain and illness no longer exist. May he always look down and protect his loving family and friends.
