Paul Kilty Obituary

Paul O'Neill Kilty, formerly of Beech Road, Enfield, who made his home in Hobe Sound, Fla., and spent summers in Old Lyme, died after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, May 1, 2011.

Paul was born on March 21, 1925, and raised in Windsor Locks, son of the late Michael Kilty and Catherine O'Neill Kilty. Paul was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Hobe Sound Veterans of Foreign Wars. For his service, he received good conduct and victory medals in addition to campaign ribbons for service in the European African Middle Eastern Theater, Asiatic Pacific Theater, and the American Theater. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he began a career of federal employment from which he retired in 1977 as chief, facilities management branch, U.S. Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service. Paul was an avid bowler and spent many happy years competing as a part of the Janik Sausage bowling team. An avid Red Sox fan, Paul celebrated a Bosox victory with the same zest that he cherished his Irish heritage, making every St. Patrick's Day a special event with his famous corned beef and cabbage dinners.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mildred Cruze Kilty. Paul leaves his four children, Bill Kilty, and his wife, Judy, of Enfield, Barbara Faustine, and her husband, Ken, of Old Lyme, Cathe Gavelek, and her husband, Dennis, of Fulton, Md., and Paula DiMauro, and her husband, Tom, of Wethersfield. Paul had 15 wonderful grandchildren and four great-grandchildren whom he cherished, Jason, Mark, and Ryan Kilty, Tony, Ken, Chuck, Michael, and Bobby Faustine, Nikki Sweeney, Abby Baker, Todd and Andrew Gavelek, Dan, Brian, and Tim DiMauro; great-grandsons, Aidan and Cian Faustine and Jacob Kilty; great-granddaughter, Lily-Kate Kilty. Paul is survived by his loving brother and a sister, Michael Kilty, and his wife, Dorothy, of Windsor Locks, and Kathleen (Kilty) Malloy of Enfield; and several nieces and nephews. Paul also leaves his dear and devoted friends of Hobe Sound, Fla., whose friendship has meant so much to Paul and his children.

The family would also like to thank Andrea Brigham, R.N., and Shakina Burson for their compassion and expert care during his illness.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, where a procession will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, Enfield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery.

Paul's family will receive relatives and friends at Leete-Stevens on Friday, May 6, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m.
