Paul M. Raffia
Paul M. Raffia, aged 73, of Enfield, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at his home on October 30, 2024. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Mary (Michko) Raffia. Paul was raised in Enfield, where he remained a lifelong resident and devoted member of the community.
Paul was a proud graduate of Enfield High School and went on to earn a B.A. in Social Work from Central Conn. College. Rooted in a legacy of dedication and perseverance, he co-owned and operated Raffia Farm, a family-owned enterprise cherished for generations. Known for his extensive knowledge of broadleaf tobacco, Paul was an expert in every step, from planting to packing. He embodied the soul of a farmer, bringing unwavering commitment and expertise to his work and ensuring the Raffia name continued to be synonymous with agricultural excellence.
In his earlier years, Paul was a talented pool player, earning a local reputation at the Enfield Lanes as the "Minnesota Fats" of Enfield, a name befitting his remarkable skill and competitive nature. He also delighted in traveling to Las Vegas, driving his beloved Cadillac, and sharing laughter and good food with family and friends, especially during holidays. His warmth, humor and wit, will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Paul leaves behind a loving family who meant the world to him: his brother, Gary Raffia and his wife Mary Jane of Enfield; his nieces and nephews, Michelle Priolo and her husband Anthony, Sara Raffia, Kristen Nolan, Jimmy and Michelle Catania; and great-nieces and nephews, Samantha Hotchkiss and her husband Mack, AJ Priolo, Blake and MacKenzie Nolan and Zach Zannoni. His extended family and friends from Raffia Farms, along with his longtime special friend, Ester, will deeply miss his steadfast presence.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. A procession will gather on Wednesday, November 6, at 9 AM at Leete-Stevens for a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernard Church of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish, 426 Hazard Ave., Enfield. Committal will follow at Saint Bernard's Cemetery in Enfield.
