Richard Dimock Obituary

Richard Gordon Dimock
Richard Gordon Dimock, 84, died on October 3, 2023, after a very brief illness. Dick was born in June of 1939 at Rockville General Hospital in Rockville, Connecticut. He was the son of Gordon H. and Mildred (Arens) Dimock of Ellington, Connecticut. Like his parents before him, he was a lifelong resident of Ellington. He attended Ellington Public Schools and then Rockville High School, where he was Senior Class President and elected to the National Honor Society. He graduated from Williams College in 1961, where he majored in economics and graduated with honors as well as being elected Treasurer of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Every summer during college he worked for the Dowding Insurance Agency in Rockville, which he joined after graduation. He went on to truly enjoy a career of more than 48 years, serving the insurance needs of his many clients and friends, eventually retiring as President of Dowding, Moriarty and Dimock, Inc. Early in his career, he enlisted in the Connecticut National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1967. In the best decision of his life, he married Patricia Little of Rockville in April of 1965. Their family became complete when their son, Jim, was born in 1978.
Dick remained very active in the Greater Vernon Area throughout his adult life. He was a Corporator of Rockville General Hospital and The Savings Bank of Rockville and served on their Ellington Advisory Board. He was a lifelong member of the Ellington Congregational Church and a Board Member of the Vernon Chamber of Commerce. He was very active with the Rockville Jaycees and The Rockville Exchange Club for over 35 years. He also chaired the Finance Committee of the Vernon Hospice.
Dick greatly enjoyed spending time with family, golf, his family home on Cape Cod, playing cards with his close friends, reading, casino trips with his pals, and so many family trips to Disney and Cape Cod.
Dick leaves his treasured wife, Pat, of more than 58 years, his beloved son James R. Dimock and wife Kelly, their three much loved children Elizabeth, Daniel and Jack, his brother Rodney Dimock and wife Marilee, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary and David Layman, Charles and Kim Little and Barbara Little and Jack Shea. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins who were an important part of his life. He wanted to be sure so many other people know how much he treasured his time with them; all his friends in Ellington and Cape Cod, including life-long friends Bob and Marsha DuBeau, the guys he golfed with for so many years at Ellington Ridge Country Club, their road trips, the Polish Vermont Open, annual golf trips to Florida and so many poker games. Dick loved his life with you all and it lasted longer than he ever thought it would.
Dick had so many close, wonderful friends, but we need to especially recognize and thank his dear friend, Dr. Neil Brooks, who guided him through so many health challenges and was with him always, including every day at the end.
Due to certain family circumstances, burial will be private at the family's convenience. The family invites all Dick's friends to join them in a celebration of Dick's life at Ellington Ridge Country Club on Tuesday, October 10th from 2:00-5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory can be made to the Ellington Congregational Church and the Ellington Public Library. I met Richard in Rockville High School, as we are both members of the Class of '57. Our relationship was somewhat unique in that, because of the spelling of our last names, whenever we shared the same class, we always sat next to each other. After graduation, we went our separate ways, but always renewed our friendship during our many class reunions. Like so many of our other classmates, Dick will be sorely missed.

The loss of a wonderful man! Dick was my next door neighbor across the street from us on Tripp Rd. He and Pat befriended my wife Anne and treated our three children like Grand children. They were with us during the passing of my wife Anne and gave us unmeasurable support during this tough time. He has touched so many lives and we feel like we are losing close family member. Our condolences go out to the family and your loss is our loss. Dennis, Jack, Maggie and Kate Quinn.
