Richard Hensel Obituary

Richard John Hensel Sr.
Richard John Hensel, Sr., 87, of Broad Brook, beloved husband of Linda (Scioscio) Hensel, passed away February 20th, in Bloomfield. Richard was born November 11th, 1936, in Hartford, CT. He was the son of the late Gotthold G. Hensel and Alice May (Sullivan) Hensel. He proudly served in the US Navy Reserve. Prior to retirement, Richard worked at Hamilton Standard, and Pine Meadow in Windsor Locks as a tool & die machinist until the ripe age of 73.
As a well rounded athlete, a few of Richard's pursuits included playing golf, bowling, basketball, softball and horseshoes. Always an avid fan of the UCONN men's and women's basketball teams, he loved watching their games. Richard played and coached local softball and basketball teams well into his retirement and he was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Giants football team. Richard was a lifetime member of the German Club in Broad Brook. He and his wife, Linda, loved their RV and hosted many camping vacations with family.
Richard possessed a talent and passion for woodworking. In 1970, he designed, created blueprints and built his own home. He lived in this home for fifty-four years until his passing.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his six children: Debbie Paul, Richard Jr., Robert, Terry, Mark and Keith. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Joan (Hensel) Chartier and Mary Ann (Hensel) Simmons. Richard was predeceased by his former wife, Carol (Kerkins) Hensel.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Thursday, March 7th, 2024, for a Memorial Mass for Richard, at 1 p.m., at Saint Mary Ann Cope Church (formerly Saint Catherine Church) in Broad Brook. After Mass, we welcome everyone to the German Club for a celebration of Richard's life.

Richard was a beloved member of our family and was the Godfather of our daughter Katie. My husband Paul (diehard Red Sox fan) was Richards first cousin the two loved to bust each other about their teams.

Sadly Paul and Katie passed away last year and now Richard, Paul, Katie and Aunt Maggie can continue their sports debates in heaven. They are greatly loved and will be missed.
