Richard Sheehan Obituary

Richard W. "Dick" Sheehan, 83, of The Villages Florida, formerly of South Windsor, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, with his beloved wife, Pauline, and family members by his side.

Dick was born on April 3, 1939, in Hartford, to Peter and Anne (Walter) Sheehan. He attended Hartford High School and then served in the United States Air Force and Connecticut Air National Guard, achieving the rank of technical sergeant (E-6). He was a true American that loved his country and all it had to offer. Dick was a longtime resident of South Windsor and was employed as vice president of operations at Industronics Inc. After leaving Industronics, he began a career as a director with the State of Connecticut Department of Administrative Services. He first joined the agency to head up the state's employee suggestion program. He was later promoted to head up the department's business services Dcvision where he was recognized for his exemplary performance. In his final position, he led the General Services Division as deputy commissioner where he was responsible for the state's vehicle fleet, Central Supply Warehouse, Surplus Property and other business service sections of the department until his retirement. Dick was active in the South Windsor community, coaching little league baseball and volunteering his time with the Concerned Parents of South Windsor organization. He was an avid golfer and spent numerous hours on the course with his wife Pauline. Hobbies he enjoyed included photography, bird watching, listening to music and reading about the American West. Dick also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends both in Connecticut and Florida. Dick was an honest, loving, caring, compassionate human being who was always willing to lend a hand. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious appetite for life; inspiring everyone to seize the day. Dick was a person who had a sincere interest and compassion for everyone he knew. People were drawn to him as they could feel his genuine care and concern for them; he was the one that everyone turned to in their most challenging times. The incredible wisdom that he had to offer was sought out by friends and family alike. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandparent, great-grandparent, friend, co-worker, comrade and much to everyone's surprise, a doggy-daddy. All who knew Dick were blessed to have had him in their lives, he truly deserved the rich life that he enjoyed so much. He was our family's Leader of the Pack; to say that he will be missed tremendously is an understatement. He was truly one of a kind.

Besides his wife Pauline of 30 plus years, Dick is survived by his sons Richard "Rick" Sheehan and his wife, Karen of Windsor, Gregory Sheehan and Kathy of the Villages, Bryan Sheehan and his wife, Donna of Ellington, Brian Pulver and his wife, Sue of Enfield and Peter Pulver and his wife, Sue of Newport, Vermont; and his grandchildren, Kevin Sheehan, Dana Sheehan, Jennifer Todaro, Jamie Patten, Tyler Pulver, Mariah Pulver, Chelsea Pulver; as well as his five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Robert "Bob" Sheehan and three sisters Anne Marie Costello, Peggy Sheehan and Teresa Shulman. Dick was predeceased by his brothers Peter, James "Jimmy" and Johnny. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the people at Cornerstone Hospice in the Villages for their loving care and support during his final hours.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, in South Windsor, on Monday, Dec. 12, from 2 to 5 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Dick will then be laid to rest at the Florida National Veterans Cemetery in Bushnell Florida.
