Richard (Rich or Sully) Eugene Sullivan,77, of Coventry CT, husband of Carol Radziewicz Sullivan for 52 years passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31st, 2025.
In addition to his wife, Rich leaves behind two sons, Doug and Ryan Sullivan. He was predeceased by his son Derek Sullivan in 2006. Also, he is survived by a sister Barb Malena, his nieces, Kim Thomas and Kristin Alphine, all of Virginia. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Maggie Radziewicz, Terry Radziewicz (Gayle Bottcher), and Donna Gasiorowski, all from New Hampshire. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother David Sullivan.
Rich was born in Hartford, CT on December 1st, 1947, to Eugene and Jean Banas Sullivan. He grew up in East Hartford, CT, attending East Hartford High School, graduating in 1965. He continued his education at the University of Connecticut, graduating in 1971 with a degree in accounting. While in college, he was a member of theta sigma chi fraternity, where he made lifelong friendships.
After graduation, Rich enlisted in the National Guard reserves, where he did the accounting for his platoon. That led to a career in accounting for Travelers Insurance, in Hartford, until he was downsized in 1994. His second career was for Coca-Cola in East Hartford.
In college, Rich met Carol, and they were married November 11th, 1972; they recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary.
Rich was a caring husband and father, he will be remembered as a quiet, intelligent man who enjoyed the little things in life, including sports (UConn football and basketball and the Patriots), and traveling to historic landmarks and sporting venues. He was an avid horseracing fan. He had a wry sense of humor.
Rich was active in Coventry Youth sports, including football, basketball, and baseball, coaching at all levels. He helped to promote youth sports in Coventry.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 10th at the Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Tpke. (Rte. 44), Coventry, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11th at St. Matthew Church, 111 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Coventry.
