Turcotte
Richard Turcotte, passed away on Oct. 9, 2021, in Sunnybrooke Rehabilitation Center hospice care in Raleigh, North Carolina after a lengthy decline in health.
Born in Lawrence Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Theophil and Mary Ange Turcotte. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Ann (Tabor) Turcotte; daughters Ellen Jane Boswell and Sara Ann Kittel; sons-in-law Sean Boswell and Steven Kittel; grandchildren Emma Paige, Abigael Grace, Robyn Ashley, Jonathan Andrew, and Alexander Steven; and four great-grandchildren.
Richard grew up and served as an altar boy at St. Anne's Parish of Lawrence and attended Central Catholic High School. Post-graduation, he attended Merrimack College and Boston College studying Journalism. He served in the U.S. Army, working as a journalist then continued at several newspapers in Massachusetts and Indiana after being honorably discharged. He eventually landed at the Journal Inquirer in Connecticut with his small family where he helped write columns, served as editor, worked in layout, and in many other roles. During this time, he and his family also loved to participate in Civil War reenactment events around the New England area. Researching the life, culture, and people of the Civil War era was a passion into which Richard brought his keen whit and vast intelligence. His self-taught sewing and construction skills allowed him to create many of the tools and objects used by soldiers and families in encampments of the era for himself, his family, and friends. In 1992, Richard relocated to North Carolina with his wife and youngest daughter where he began his second career in building and maintenance of computer systems while working as a help-desk technician before retiring in 2001. Richard loved to read books, watch historical documentaries and dramas, sail, write, and help those around him. He was a modest and simple man who gave any aid within his means to all in need, often opening his home for friends and relatives. His quiet strength, dry sense of humor, quick intelligence, and gentle demeanor will be greatly missed.
Services will be held today in New Hampshire
