Robert Langone Obituary

Robert M. Langone, 76, of Vernon, beloved husband of Suzanne M. (Palumbo) Langone, died peacefully on Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, with family by his side at Hartford Hospital.

Bob was born on May 14, 1946, in Westfield, Massachusetts, to the late Frank and Jennie (Zapert) Langone. He grew up alongside his Zapert relatives in Westfield and enjoyed visiting his Langone relatives in East Boston. Bob and Sue were married on May 15, 1971. ("51 years of marital bliss" as he would say.) They started their family in Westfield before moving to their home in Vernon in 1979. Bob will be remembered as a loving and supportive husband, dad, and grampie. We will miss his curious, inquisitive mind that always wanted (NEEDED) to know how things worked. Plants in medical offices and restaurants had to be investigated to determine if they were real or fake. Holiday dinners won't be the same without a platter of Bob's second-to-none antipasto. He was a friend of Bill W and took pride in maintaining over 36 years of sobriety. Bob was a technical writer, starting his career at Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard, Massachusetts, and began working at Gerber Scientific when he and Sue moved to Connecticut. He retired from Coburn Technologies in 2011, and enjoyed not needing to know what day it was after retirement. He was a lifelong learner, always interested in science, and enjoyed teaching others. He also enjoyed building things, either woodworking or making machines to demonstrate scientific principles. Bob was an avid vegetable gardener but did not especially enjoy watering his plants. Just this summer he was researching automatic drip irrigation systems to help him with this chore. He enjoyed Coca-Cola and coffee daily and could usually be found with one or the other or both nearby.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his son, Peter Langone, his partner, Brenda Humberson, and her daughters Caroline, Olivia, Hannah, and Christina, of Springfield, Virginia; and his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dan Bradford, and their children Joe and Julie, of Vernon. Bob will also be missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law; numerous cousins, friends, and his adored dog, Ari. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his grandson David Bradford; and several special aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m., at the First Congregational Church of Vernon – United Church of Christ. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery in Vernon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Cornerstone Foundation, P.O. Box 3, 15 Prospect St., Vernon, CT 06066, or the First Congregational Church of Vernon - United Church of Christ, 695 Hartford Tpke., Vernon, CT 06066.
