Roger Vacek Obituary

Roger Frank Vacek
1952 - 2024
Roger Frank Vacek passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. Born on June 3, 1952, in Hartford, CT, he grew up in East Hartford and spent the remainder of his life in Vernon, CT. After graduating in 1974, from UConn with a BS in History, Roger worked for nearly 40 years for Automatic Data Processing. Initially a part-time courier, he achieved various other roles, including Director of Operations and Project Team Leader, prior to retiring.
Roger was a devoted husband and father and was adored by his family. Before attending Talcottville Congregational Church in Vernon, he was a weekly attendee of Trinity Covenant Church in Manchester. There, over his 40-year membership, he served in various roles including Sunday School & Confirmation Teacher, Trustee, bass guitarist during worship services, and directing lighting cues for the then annual Christmas Musical. Roger was also an avid, although lousy, golfer.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Susanne (Jubb) Vacek of Glastonbury, his daughter, Stephanie (Vacek) Marois and her husband Brian Marois, and granddaughter Madelyn; his daughter, Alison (Vacek) Seitz and her husband Matthew Seitz, and grandsons, Alec and Elliot. He is also survived by his sister, Pamela Vacek of Colchester, VT and brother, Philip Vacek of Simsbury, CT. He was predeceased by his mother, Helen (Denham) Vacek of Lymington, England, father, George Frank Vacek of NYC, as well as his brother, Richard.
Roger had metastatic cancer for over a decade, which he fought with perseverance and grit in the midst of life-altering physical changes. He never let his health challenges crush his spirit and he enjoyed life until his final days. When Jesus finally called him home, he was surrounded by a chorus of friends and family, singing his favorite hymns and worship songs.
Roger will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, which frequently caused hilarious laughter, and his unwavering love for his wife, family and God.
Family and friends may call on the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester, on Friday, July 26, from 4-7 p.m., as well as a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, July 27, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Covenant Church, 302 Hackmatack St., Manchester. Burial thereafter at Valley Falls Cemetery in Vernon. Luncheon details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can made to Trinity Covenant Church or Talcottville Congregational Church Missions funds. For online condolences, please visit www.tierneyfuneralhome.com.

Dear Vacek family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I have such fond memories of playing sandlot football with Roger and Richard in the field behind our houses in Prestige Park, along with many, many more. Roger was always smiling and laughing. Always. We would all hang out at your back steps and just talk about stuff. Endlessly. Heaven has one more angel.
