Scott Callan Obituary
Scott John Callan
January 1, 1970 - July 3, 2023
Scott John Callan, 53, passed away unexpectedly on July 3rd at home in Colchester, CT.
Scott was born in Woburn, MA on January 25, 1970. He grew up in Enfield, CT, the son of John and Sonja Callan; and alongside his older brother and two younger sisters. He was a 1988 graduate of Enfield High School. Scott matriculated to UCONN and then transferred to Colby College and obtained his B.A. in Liberal Arts in 1992. He then studied his lifelong passion of film at Columbia University. Scott lived in NY and CT, and worked as a project manager in many corporations and also managed restaurants.
Scott loved to experience new things and wanted to try all life had to offer. He enjoyed trying new foods and was an innovative and skilled cook and gardener. He was creative in many ways and loved to do projects with his kids. He loved listening to live music, especially '80s Rock. He loved to take scenic drives and stop for anything along the way that might be fun. He loved sports, especially tennis, the Red Sox, the Patriots and UCONN basketball. He loved to travel anywhere and explore cities. He loved Boston and New York. He spent time traveling across the country twice and also to Europe: to England, Portugal, Spain, and Italy. He loved treasure hunting at antique stores and flea markets. He enjoyed summertime and being outdoors, the ocean, and fishing. He said he enjoyed being anywhere with good company and loved a strong conversation and argument. His favorite time of day was late day golden hour sun and he loved sunflowers, which he said reminded him of his children, "strong and beautiful".
Scott brought the fun. He had an irrepressible way about him, a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous smile that always let you know he was thinking of his next idea to make someone laugh. He loved bringing fun and happiness to the people he loved the most, and enjoyed planning gifts and surprises. He had many lifelong friends he considered family and family he considered friends, who will sorely miss his sharp-witted humor as well as his funny, sometimes irreverent, antics.
Scott's proudest accomplishment in life was being the father to his two children, Henry and Jillian. He wanted to be with them as much as he possibly could and experience the world together. He imparted upon them his love for film and theater, cooking creatively, fishing and enjoying the outdoors, and to live large as he always did.
Scott is survived by his two children, Henry Callan and Jillian Callan of Colchester, CT, his mother Sonja (Burneko) Callan, a brother, David Callan, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Tracy (Callan) and Jeff Robillard, and Beth Callan. He was predeceased by his father John A. Callan and brother, John Todd Callan. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, cousins, and his former wife, Rebecca DeAngelis.
A memorial gathering will be held to celebrate Scott's life at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 16th at Day Pond State Park in Colchester, CT. This is a substance free event, and all are welcome and encouraged to bring a dish to share, as well as photos and memories of our beloved, Scott. Donations in Scott's memory may be made to the Jimmy Fund.
