Stanley Lessoff Obituary

Stanley Lessoff, 78, beloved husband of Susan (Geary) Lessoff of Vernon, passed from this life peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2006, after a determined battle with cancer.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, son of the late Alexander and Frances (Palinofsky) Lessoff, he grew up in Milton and lived in Quincy and New Bedford before moving to Vernon 25 years ago. Prior to his retirement in July 2006, Stanley was a teacher at Rockville High School for 25 years. He previously taught at New Bedford High School for seven years and before that had a varied career in business. He was a U. S. Army veteran, having been in the occupying army in Japan at the end of World War II. He was a graduate of Northeastern Univer-sity, Boston, Massachusetts, Class of 1953. He was a member of Congregation B'Nai Israel in Vernon, and he also served on their Finance Committee. Stanley was a member of the Rockville High Teachers Club, the Connecticut Business Educators' Board of Directors, serving as treasurer for a number of years, a member of the Delta Pi Epsilon, Business Educators' Honor Society, a member of the Board of Directors at Ryefield and Quail Hollow Condo Complexes, Treasurer of the Connecticut Science Fair and also served on the Board of Directors, and was a member of the Democratic Town Committee. He taught the wood badge course for the Boy Scouts, whom he served for many years as an adult leader. He was a member of Northeastern University Alumni and helped with recruitment. He was an idealistic, outgoing person who enjoyed working with youth. His would strike up conversations with people anywhere, as he loved to connect. He loved to travel. He was endlessly curious. He loved to be busy and involved. He loved life so much that he resisted his illness until the end. He's been called the Energizer Bunny by colleagues at work, because through all his health problems he always bounced back.

Besides his loving wife of 26 years, Stanley is survived by a daughter, Robin C. Lessoff-Perry, MD, and her husband R. Scott of Burlington, Vt, a son, Alan H. Lessoff, PhD, and his wife Mineke Reinders of Bloomington, Ill., four grandchildren, Benjamin (and his wife Jessica) and Rachel Esancy, Adrienne Perry, and Audrey Lessoff; two great grandchildren, Emily and William Esancy; a sister, Barbara Epstein of Canton, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Vera Lessoff of Potomac, Md.; four nephews and a niece. Besides his parents, Stanley was predeceased by a brother, Howard, and a brother-in-law, Jason Epstein.

Mrs. Lessoff,

I only recently learned of Mr. Lessoff's passing when I was home for a weekend. I was shocked and still have a hard time believing it. I'll always remember your trips to the office and how both of you would always manage to keep laughing even if you had to wait for 3 hours! I pray that your memories together bring you comfort. God bless.

Mrs. Lessoff-
I just heard of the news of your husband and wanted to let you know that I have had you in my prayers. I never had your husband as a teacher, only you back in 1990-91 but you two were so happy together. I know that he is in a great place and he wants you to cherish all the good time. God Bless

Sue,
I was so sorry to hear about Stan. The first thing that came to my mind when I read it in the paper was my dad. Believe it or not, he talked to me as I read it. It was him who brought me to Stans funeral. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I feel strongly that he is at peace..
Take care of yourself, you are a wonderful person.
Fondly, Michele and Jon (Lamson) Lundberg

I only had Mr. Lessoff as a study hall teacher my junior year of high school, but even so I was exposed to a teacher who took such a great interest in his students. I had several conversations with him at length, especially about my college search process. Even during my senior year, he would approach me in the hallway just to quickly catch up. I was amazed by this genuine interest he had in people, especially his students. People like Mr. Lessoff are much appreciated and seldom forgotten. My most sincere thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Mr. Lessoff you will be missed so much. I know I was a pain-in-the-butt student, and you taught me for 3 years, but at the beginning of my senior year last year, you told me you were going to do whatever it took to get me to pass the computer class and graduate. I made you promise me that you would come to my graduation. When you left right before mid-terms, I was telling myself "he better still come to my graduation". Well, on graduation day, I never would have thought that I would have seen you. Well when I was walking down the hall in my cap and gown with my class, I saw you and the smile you had on your face made my heart melt. I knew I had made you proud by graduating. No one thought I was going to graduate on time, but you believed in me and you helped me get that diploma. Hearing you say congradulations meant so much to me. I thank you for all you did for me, and everyone else.

To Mr. Lessoff's family, I am deeply sorry for your loss, and you have been in my prayers and will be.

We will miss you Mr. Lessoff.
God bless you.
