Stephen Czyz Obituary

On Sept. 16, 2015, Stephen Andrew Czyz (#4) was called up by the Angels to play shortstop. He will live on in the hearts of his 10 year old daughter Katherine, the light of his life, and his wife and best friend of 23 years, Sherri.

Steve was born on June 26, 1971, and spent his years surrounded by many wonderful people. He made countless childhood memories in his hometown, playing from the crack of dawn until the street lights came on. He was known in the neighborhood to enter friends' homes looking for cheese. Despite a tag football injury that left a very manly scar, he carried his love of sports throughout his life: from his years playing on the baseball diamond to the ones sitting on the sidelines cheering on his daughter.

Steve was often heard reciting lines from Star Wars and Rambo and looked forward to family vacations at his favorite spot, the Royal Pacific at Universal. He enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace on family movie nights. He mastered the touch of the joystick trying to get the high score on Ms. PacMan. Steve rocked on to everyone from Aerosmith to ZZ Top in concert. He savored every day, but especially Taco Tuesdays. Above all, his favorite thing was watching his beautiful daughter Katherine grow into an amazing young girl. His heart was filled with happiness just thinking of her.

Although Steve refused to wait in line more than 20 minutes for his favorite rides at WDW, he buckled in for every single roller-coaster. Many small children witnessed him turn green after riding the infamous Tea Cups. He protested when Friendly's got stingy with the corporate-sized ice cream scoops, but always asked for extra hot fudge. His heart was loving and pure, just look to the many turtles he saved from crossing the busy streets. He never enjoyed being sick, but always embraced the richness and beauty of life.

As Steve has found eternal peace, he leaves behind his loving parents, Richard and Sharon Czyz of Ellington; his brother, Mike, wife Cynthia, and his nephew, Michael of Middletown. His loyal friends who showed endless support and encouragement throughout his life, Rob, Mike, Matt, Dave, Jerry, Steve, Mike, Ron, Donny, and Jen will always be cherished members of the Czyz family.

A celebration of life will take place at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Katherine Czyz College Fund, c/o Bank of America 243 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon, CT 06066.
