Stephen Eugene Wente, 75, of Manchester, CT, died Monday, December 30, 2024, at St Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT, after a prolonged illness. Steve was born July 3, 1949, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester MN to Eugene and Peggy (Dandois) Wente.
He graduated from Lourdes High School in Rochester in 1967 and attended Rochester Community College in 1969 and again in the mid-1970s. He served in the Navy from 1969 to 1972, as a Postal Clerk on ship in Vietnam and in the Philippines at Subic Bay. He was a Plank Holder on the USS Kansas City. He moved in 1982, to Hartford, CT, to work for the newly opened JC Penney's Catalog Distribution Center in Manchester. He retired from Penney's after 30+ years. He met Nancy Lee Webb in 1984, and they were married in Manchester in 2009 and have lived there since. Steve loved history, reading, coin, stamp and many other types of collecting, trivia and gathering with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Manchester, CT, brothers, Tim (Lori) of Prior Lake MN, John (Ann) of Castle Rock, CO, Mike (Vicki) of Menomonie, WI, Geno (Sandy) of Phelps, WI, Erich of Boyceville, WI, Patrick (Claudia) of Oak Grove, KY and sisters, Susan (Ted) Johnson of Rochester, MN, Marianne (Pat) Newell of Littleton, CO, Maggie (Bill) McGillicuddy of Bolingbrook, IL, Mikki Wente of Blythewood, SC, and thirteen nieces/nephews and fourteen grandnieces/nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew, Nicholas Noah Wente.
