Thomas Gates Obituary

Thomas L. Gates, 78, of Willington, husband of Trudy (Ulitsch) Gates, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer.

Tom was born May 11, 1943, in Keene, New Hampshire. He was the son of the late George and Olive (Nichols) Gates. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Harold Gates, Robert Gates and David Gates; and his sisters Janet Gates and Nancy (Seaman) Gates.

Tom enjoyed his retirement years in Florida before returning home to Connecticut to be with his family. Tom's passions in life since boyhood were hunting and fishing. He loved all animals, especially the many dogs that loved him over the years. He loved spending time in Shenipsit State Forest and fishing on the many lakes and rivers of New England and the shores of Florida.

Besides his wife he is survived by his daughters, Christine (Larry) Burleigh of Windsor and Pamela (Joe) Pasha of Enfield; his stepdaughters, Jessica Dimmock of Willington and Amanda (Joe) Czelusniak of Willimantic; his six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; his sister, Loes Hemmeler of Vernon; his brother, George "Sonny" (Flora) Gates of Enfield; and his best friend, Ross Easton of Maine.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Hartford Hospital and Hospice for the care given to Tom in his last days.

A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bridge Street, Suffield, on Feb. 12 at 11 a.m.
