Warren Gerlt Obituary

Warren R. Gerlt, 82, beloved husband of Marie (Yaconiello) Gerlt of Vernon, formerly of Old Saybrook and South Windsor, died Thursday, August 24, 2006, at home.

Born in Boonville, Mo., on October 13, 1923, son of the late Thomas and Emma (Bartlow) Gerlt, he had lived in South Windsor for most of his married life, retiring to Old Saybrook before moving to Vernon a year ago.

Before retiring he was employed at Trinity College, Hartford. Mr. Gerlt was a U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a Mason in Evergreen Lodge #114, South Windsor. His greatest joy was his family.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Attorney Wayne C. and his wife, Elaine Gerlt, and Donna and her husband, Dr. Kevin Norige, all of South Windsor; five grandchildren, Tabetha and her husband, Christopher Avtges, of Ellington, Tiffany and her husband, Matthew Perkins, of San Diego, Calif., Christopher Gerlt of Framingham, Mass., Andrew and his wife, Angel Norige, of Manchester and Sheryl Norige of Queens, N.Y.; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Hunter Avtges of Ellington. He was predeceased by two brothers and sisters, William and Christopher T. Gerlt and Cecil Lees and Lula Mae McBride.

Family and friends may gather, Monday, 8:45 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 9:30 a.m., in St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Burial with military honors will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.

His family will receive friends, Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be held Sunday at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 279 New Britain Rd., Kensington, CT 06037 or to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 705 North Mountain Rd., #G102, Newington, CT 06111.

To All, I was greatly saddened to hear about Uncle Warren...he was one of the "good guys",so sweet and good natured. I have many fond family memories. Bobby and Laurie join me in extending our deepest & heartfelt sympathy. We grieve over your terrible loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
