Still think of her often

Mrs Wesson was a marvelous, genuine, and caring teacher. I had her for 2nd grade at Lincoln School in 1963-64. That year was a challenge for many that I knew. JFK was shot in Nov, then my nephew was kidnapped and found murdered in Florida in Spring, 1964. Mrs Wesson was a Godsend during that time in my life. I'm sorry to hear of her passing, but also glad to hear that God Blessed her with nice long life. Sincerely, Greg Kuntz

My husband Pete and I both taught at Lincoln School in Freeport with Hazel. She loved being with all of her students and one of the greatest teachers. I think of her often. I remember having a copper enamel item made for her from my art students the year that she retired. Love, Angie & Pete Honchalk

My devoted 2nd grade teacher at Lincoln ...
She showed us that girls from working-class families could go to college, and happily granted me an afternoon away from school so that I could take my first airplane jaunt (from Albertus to Rockford!) 1955 or 1956. She gave us wings, taught us to be strong and independent and sincerely cared about our futures. Thanks to the Wesson women for sharing your mom with so many children.

Mrs. Wesson was my second grade teacher (circa 1966) and my favorite teacher of all time. I loved Lincoln School (with its separate boys and girls entrances) and I especially remember her teaching me to write in cursive. What a smile! I wrote her a card once or twice and hope she knew how many lives she touched here in Freeport. My sympathy to your family on such a huge loss.

As a volunteer at Fairhaven, I first met Hazel in the coffeeshop. More recently I've enjoyed knowing her as we played bingo on Wednesday mornings. As with all these friends at Fairhaven, I wish I could have known her before she needed health care. She was truly a very gracious lady, with a ready, beautiful smile. I know your loss is great, but I also am very sure that you have wonderful memories to help you smile as you look back on her life. May the Lord give you strength and peace as you go on without this special lady.

Hazel was a great and caring friend of my mother's while they both were at Fairhaven Retirement Home. My mother was Etta Finley and passed away in 2008. I think of Hazel often and she had called me not to long ago. A wonderful person. Love and prayers, Ed and Marie (Finley) Berridge

Mrs. Wesson was my 2nd grade teacher at Lincoln school. I have so many fond memories of her, and have shared many times throughout my life with family and friends. I will remember her forever. She ultimitely was my favorite teacher. I had a chance to visit with her on the phone several years ago and this meant so much to me. She has been a treasure to me in my life and she will be missed by those that knew her. My condolences to the family.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Hazel. Hazel was a friend of my parents, Gladys and Dick Mincemoer. When they all moved to Fairhaven I got to know Hazel. I had many enjoyable visits with her over the years. I last saw her about a month ago. What a joy to see her. She was a lovely lady and will be missed. May God comfort you at this difficult time.

Mrs. Wesson was my 2nd grade teacher. She made school interesting & fun!! She took us on a walk to her home on Saxby here in Freeport and gave us a "party". I wish I knew she was close by before now, I would have visited her. You will be missed by many who you have touch! God Bless You, Mrs. Wesson!
