Doris Berck Obituary

Doris LaVelle Berck 83, Hoover, Ala., formerly of Lincoln, passed away Saturday (11/01/08). Born January 22, 1925, to her parents, Walter and Vernie Hughes of Stromsburg, Neb. She attended Stromsburg High School, graduating in 1942. In 1945, Doris married Marvel "Jim" D. Berck and they moved to Lincoln where they resided until 1999. While living in Lincoln, Mrs. Berck worked for several employers including the Lincoln School System; Miller & Paine as a bookkeeper for 5 years; Manpower; Nebraska Dept. of Revenue during tax season for 11 years; Nebraska Bookstore as a cashier; and Chapman & Savidge as a bookkeeper until her retirement. In 1999, following the death of her mother, Doris and Jim moved to Hoover, Ala. to be closer to their daughter and her family. They were active members of Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln since 1946, and joined Bluff Park United Methodist Church after relocating to Alabama.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter and Vernie (Berggren) Hughes, Stromsburg, Neb.; and her sister, Virginia Dzama, Kansas City, Kan. She is survived by her husband, Marvel "Jim" Berck; daughter, DeAnn Bueoy; two grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. Her family and friends will miss her.
Services were held Saturday (11/08/08) at Elmwood Chapel at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Ala. Her family would like memorials to be sent in her honor to Bluff Park United Methodist Church, 733 Valley St., Hoover, AL 35226. Please see www.mem.com for more of Doris' story.
