Eugene Huenink Obituary
Eugene Harmon Huenink, 100 years old, passed away on October 31, 2024, at Yankee Hill Village, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; and his parents, Herman and Jennie Huenink.
He is survived by his daughters, Judy (James) LaRue, Kingston, Tennessee. and Bonnie Elwell, Lincoln; his grandchildren, Dana Helmink, Amber ( Bobby) Stutzman, Jill Hotze, Allison (Mark) Dudycha, Stephanie (Matthew) Campbell, his great-grandchildren, Alaina, Brayden, Liam, Miles, Wagner, Margot, Reid and Miller; and his brother, Merle (Marjorie) Huenink Holland, Nebraska; and a host of nieces and nephews.
From an early age, Eugene was devoted to farming, right alongside his dad, uncles and brother, on the family farm near Holland. He spent his entire life in the Holland Community, with his wife, Shirley, only moving to assisted living at age 99 1\2. He was a devoted member of the Holland Reformed Church, serving in a number of capacities. After retirement, he and Shirley moved off the farm and into Holland. He pursued another passion, that of woodworking. His shop was always full of a variety of projects. He made over 100 children's rockers, and many unique and detailed wall décor, called "Intarsia". And there were countless puzzles, knickknacks, candleholders, games and toys. Another of his specialties was very detailed small cars, trucks, dozers and other vehicles. He was famous in the community for his "Nebraska Grasshopper" child's pull toys.
Throughout all his years as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Eugene was cherished for his ready smile and sense of humor.
Services will be held at Holland Church, Holland, Nebraska on Thursday, November 7th, at 10 a.m. with Reverend Anthony Godtel presiding. Interment will follow the service at the Holland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holland Church or your favorite charity.
