Jack Gilman Obituary

Jack C. Gilman, 78, Beaver Lake, formerly Nebraska City, passed away on Monday (12/27/04) at the Midlands Community Hospital in Papillion. Born, Nebraska City (2/22/26), to Eldon J. and Catherine A. (Coonely) Gilman. Attended Nebraska City High School and before graduating entered the U.S. Navy (6/30/44). His military duty took him to the Pacific Theater before he received an honorable discharge on (6/5/46). He returned to Nebraska City, where he graduated high school in 1946. He then attended Peru State College for one year. Married Mary Belle "Sue" Dougherty (8/20/49) at the Coryell Park Church. To their union was born two sons, Gary and Rick. Jack and his family lived in Nebraska City, where he managed the American Legion Club. Jack went to work (7/30/62) for Bob Knisely's company, Midwest Construction, until his retirement (5/2/91). Member: American Legion Post 9; VFW; Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 968; past, Elks Lodge No. 1099. In 1995, Sue and Jack moved to Beaver Lake.

Survivors: wife, Mary Belle "Sue;" sons, daughters-in-law, Gary and Pam, Beaver Lake, Rick and Nancy, Gretna; grandsons, Tim, Tyler and Jay Gilman; aunts, Gertrude Scudder, Gwen Spangler both Nebraska City, Charleen Cooney, Washington; other relatives and friends.

Graveside services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Clifton Cemetery, south of Brock by Coryell Park. Following around 2:30 p.m., the family will greet relatives and friends at the American Legion Club in Nebraska City. No viewing or visitation, but friends may sign the register at Peterson Mortuary, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today. Memorials: Juvenile Diabetes Research; donor's choice.
