Janice Mars

Janice Mars (Marx), 79, Williamsburg, N.M., died April 9, 2004. Born, Lincoln (6/17/24). Legendary New York night club owner, singer, actress Janice Mars, born Janice Marx. Graduated from Lincoln High School 1942. Attended UNL theater arts. Left Lincoln to pursue acting in New York. A student in the Actors Studio of the 1940s and '50s under Lee Strassberg. Performed in plays, stock companies and early television series. Her greatest notoriety came as the owner and nightly performer at the infamous Baq Room. The tiny after-hours club catered to the professional show clientele of New York in the late '50s and early '60s. The condemnation of the entire block on West 57th Street to make way for the present Avenue of the Americas was the end of the Baq Room. She made one recording of the best of the Baq Room era and left New York for the wide open spaces of New Mexico. S
