John Dietrich Obituary

John Dietrich, master of the printing press and strummer of heartstrings, departed this world on January 24, 2024, at the age of 68, leaving a legacy inked in love and melody. Born on June 7, 1955, in Lincoln, Nebraska, John's life was a composition of kindness, friendship, and tuneful talent that resonated with all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

John and his beloved Nancy enjoyed 47 years of marriage until her passing in 2022. Their son Jacob was their pride and joy. Together, they opened their home and hearts, providing care and hospitality to those in need.

Surviving John is his son Jacob (Laura), grandchildren Oden, Oliver, and Amalia; brother Paul Dietrich (Linda), sister Carlene Hemminger (Gary), sister Jeanie Hopkins, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife Nancy, his parents Carl and Jean Dietrich, and sister DeAnn Joliffe.

John attended Nebraska Christian College, fine-tuning his mind before embarking on a lifelong career in printing. With Nancy, he owned and operated Dietrich Printing Company for many years. Most recently, he worked as a web pressman at Firespring.

John's faith was central to his life. He attended various churches over his lifetime including Capitol City Christian, Christ's Place, and Grace Chapel. He enjoyed leading worship at People's City Mission in recent years.

Music was another constant in John's life, from guitar strumming to songwriting, band jamming, and worship leading. Grandchildren, family, and friends treasure the music he created. He enjoyed an annual men's camping trip, his guitar accompanying songs and stories around the campfire.

John Dietrich will be missed, but his melody lingers on. His life was a blend of love, laughter, and a rhythm that will play on in the hearts of those he touched. Curtain call, John, and bravo for a performance beautifully played.

A Celebration of Life event is set to be announced. Memorials may be directed to the People's City Mission.

There aren't enough words in the dictionary to convey my feelings of loss with your passing, my compatriot and friend. John has always been an expert printer, an incredible musician and a true and faithful friend. Most importantly, John was a good guy. And some times being a good guy is the best eulogy that a man can earn in his lifetime. Vaya con Dios, John. The world is a poorer place without you.

John´s music and testimony were so inspiring to me as a new Christian in the 1970s. John was sold out to Jesus, no doubt about it!

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. I knew both John and Nancy (during their dating period) from working at Hidden Valley on the dinner club side; from the front door to the kitchen. They were always so fun to talk to and listen to John's music. Prayers and sympathy to John's family's.

John was a top-quality human being. I first began playing music with him in junior high school. We kept in touch through the years and I got to spend a little quality time (not nearly enough) with John. His lifelong love with Nancy was inspirational. He was an amazing man with a beautiful voice. photo- The Deluxe band from 1972. Left to right: Pat Hubble- friend and 'roadie', Phil Hammar- sound production, Tom Larson- keyboards, Carl Gauger- bass, John Dietrich- lead vocals & guitar, John Scofield- drums, Pat McKeen- guitar & vocals.
