Karen Rathje Obituary

Karen Edwina Pierson Rathje, 50, Lincoln, died Thursday (5/24/07). Daughter of Dr. Edwin Kenneth and Margaret Pierson. She was born on July 26, 1956, at Neligh. Graduate of the University of Denver in 1977, received her master's degree and School Psychologist Certificate from the University of Nebraska and was a member of the National Association of School Psychologists. Karen was a School Psychologist for Nebraska Education Service Unit No. 8, Omaha Public Schools and Lincoln Public Schools before poor health forced her retirement.

She married Steve Rathje of Lincoln on June 15, 1985. The study of birds, animals and poetry were of great interest to her.

Survivors: husband, Steve Rathje; mother, Margaret Pierson, Lincoln; sisters and spouses, Susan and Larry Hoppel, Lincoln, Nancy and George Christatos; brother and spouse, Eric and Peg Pierson; one nephew; four nieces; other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by: father, Dr. Kenneth Pierson; grandparents.

Services : 1 p.m. Sunday, Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A St. Burial: 1 p.m. Thursday, Wyuka Cemetery. Memorials to: Pierson Wildlife Museum, Neligh.
