Margaret Ruby Obituary
December 6, 1937 - November 25, 2024
Margaret (Rosanne) Rose Ruby, 86 of Lincoln, NE, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024. She was born on December 6, 1937 in McCook, NE to Margaret and Joseph Hassler. Rosanne married her high school sweetheart Richard in 1959.
Rosanne attended McCook College and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. During her 40+-year career, she taught Social Studies and English in several Catholic schools in Lincoln including St. John's, Blessed Sacrament, and St. Joseph's. She was an avid reader who also loved to travel and share travel experiences with family.
Rosanne was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband Richard, son Jon, daughter Michelle (Koester), brother Dan (Hassler) and grandson Jacob (Barta). Rosanne was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Thomas (Hassler), Mary (Derauf) and daughter Nancy (Barta).
A Life Celebration Gathering will be held from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3rd at Roper and Sons South Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Dr., concluding with a recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4th at St. Peter Catholic Church, 4500 Duxhall Dr.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

I was a lucky one who was taught by Mrs. Ruby for 7th and 8th grades. She was amazing teacher and still top of the favorites list. She shared her passion for reading and writing with us and I know I am better for all of the lessons and help she gave. We kept in touch and she helped proofread my college application entry. The campus told me that my scores were not high enough for the typical early acceptance but because of my essay I was given early acceptance. I also ended up switching careers to teaching focusing on early literacy skills. I pray that I will be blessed with impacting as many students lives as Mrs. Ruby. She will be missed. Thought and prayers to you all.

I was a pesky little girl neighbor of Rosie's in McCook on in the 600 block of West 4th Street. Her sister Mary and I were good friends and I'm sure were a pain in the neck to her most of the time. She and Richard were always pretty tolerant with the two of us and I should have touched base with her much more than I have while living in Lincoln. She was a very good woman...
