Mark DeVore Hansen
February 3, 1951 - March 3, 2026
Mark DeVore Hansen was the son of LeRoy W. and Elizabeth (Hankey) Hansen born on February 3, 1951, in Fremont, Neb. He grew up in Lincoln, where he attended Clinton Elementary School, Millard Lefler Middle School, and graduated as a distinguished alumni from Lincoln East High School in 1969. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1973.
Mark met his wife, Patricia (Patty) Peterson in high school English class in 1968. The high school sweethearts became united in marriage on June 3, 1972, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Neb. To this marriage they were blessed with a very special daughter, Mindy Lee. Some of his proudest moments included walking his daughter down the aisle at her wedding and earning her doctoral degree.
Mark had many job offers upon graduation but chose to stay in Lincoln to remain close to family. He worked as an Electronic Engineering Manager for 24 and a half years at Isco, an Engineering Manager at Centurion for three years, Engineer and IT Manager at Land and Sky for 11 years, and again at Teledyne Isco as a Sr. Product Application Engineer for five years where he traveled all over the world, visiting up to 21 countries during a single year. Among his favorites were Australia, Singapore, and Thailand. He and Patty also loved traveling outside his work ventures, enjoying vacations in Italy, Austria, Germany as well as cruises to St. Thomas, Antigua, Saint Martin, and Barbados. A particular favorite was a Christmas market cruise touring the Danube.
Mark's love for electronics started young; he made Christmas light displays with his father in junior high and became a licensed HAM radio operator in high school. He built elaborate Christmas displays for many years which were frequently featured in local media. Mark also designed and did the electrical work for the acreage in Lincoln where they lived for 38 years. He enjoyed returning to his hobbies after retirement, constructing an elaborate model train layout, setting up additional antennas, a weather station, and repeater. He also enjoyed Lego and Erector sets, puzzles, and playing cards, dominoes, and miniature golf. Mark and Patty purchased a home in Estes Park, Colo., where he enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the local scenery along the Fall River.
Mark fought a courageous battle for nearly seven years with stage IV prostate cancer. He passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, with his wife and daughter at his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Elizabeth Hansen; brother, Mike Hansen; and infant son, Matthew David Hansen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years and eight months, Patty Hansen; their daughter, Mindy; and son-in-law, Sean McEntee.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, with a funeral service at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Roper and Sons South Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Dr, Lincoln, NE 68516.
