Mary Agnes Bahns

Mary Agnes Bahns, age 88, passed away on December 26, 2023, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mary was the oldest of ten children, born to Henry Bahns and Agnes Reichmuth. After high school, Mary joined the Missionary Benedictine sisters in Norfolk, Nebraska. She received degrees in education and served as a teacher and principal. After her years in the convent, Mary obtained a doctorate in microbiology and taught at the university level in Iowa and Texas. Later, Mary worked with the National Science Foundation in Virginia. In 2005 Mary retired to Mexico where she lived until 2021.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bob, David, Joe, Tom, and Wally; sisters Bernadette and Nancy; sisters in law Delores and Ellie, and nephew, Jacob Bahns. Mary's sister-in-law, Keiko, passed away earlier this year. Mary is survived by siblings Gene Bahns of Dayton, Ohio, Theresa Bahns Piersel of Eagle, Nebraska, and sister-in-law, Polly Bahns of Clarkson, Nebraska.

A celebration of life will be held at the Butherus, Maser, and Love Mortuary at 4040 A Street in Lincoln, Nebraska on Sunday, July 14th at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
