Matthew C. Metcalf
May 10, 1955 - May 16, 2021
Matthew C. Metcalf, 66, of Lincoln passed away May 16, 2021. Matt was born May 10, 1955 in Denver, CO to Ruth (Lionberger) and Gerald Metcalf and grew up in Omaha. He graduated from Westside High School and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Architecture from UNL.
Matt loved being an architect and he loved his work family at Davis Design (formerly Davis Fenton Stange and Darling). He spent his entire career at Davis and he served as president from 1992 to 2018. Some of his favorite projects were the Beadle Center at UNL, Farmers Mutual Insurance Company and various healthcare clinics and hospitals.
Matt married fellow Westside grad Paula Haeder in 1976. While they might have seemed like an unlikely pair, they enjoyed a long marriage and a fabulous life together. Matt dearly loved their girls and he was a faithful supporter at their softball games, piano recitals, choir concerts and dance recitals. He had a unique and colorful personality, filled with charm, love and wit. He formed tight friendships, including those with his many golf buddies. Matt was a longtime member of Sheridan Lutheran Church.
Matt is survived by wife Paula, daughters Meredith Metcalf of Omaha and Allie (Matt) Crummy of Des Moines, four delightful grandkids Milo Metcalf Moya and Charlotte, Ambrose and Lincoln Crummy, and brother Mark Metcalf (Pat Vauck) of Sutton, NE. Preceded in death by his parents and nephew Clay Metcalf.

Matt will be extremely missed. He was always gracious at AIA functions, as well as Davis Design tailgates.
Thanks for all you have done for the Architecture field.

Paula and the girls, I had so much fun growing up with Matt! Our mothers never thought we would straighten out and be productive, (we fooled them)! From first grade to Westside to UNL Matt was always that guy! We would play golf in the snow, pop rockets out the second floor window, sneaking out the Mustang and all sorts of of other things that were always on the edge! Matt is that guy always fun and always your friend. I am proud to have been Matt's friend! God Bless all of You!
