Michael S. Heller
January 28, 1966 - April 20, 2022
Michael S. Heller, 56, died on April 20, 2022. He was born to Deirdre T. (Hund) and Robert W. Heller in Kittery, Maine on January 28, 1966. He was the second of five children, one of two boys born into an Air Force family. Finally settling in Omaha, NE, Mike graduated in 1984 from Brownell Talbot and went on to attend UNL where he achieved a Bachelor of Arts with a customized major in Biological Illustration. At UNL Mike, met the love of his life Cassy Usher. They embarked on a thirty-one-year adventure full of faith, family and fun with destinations from Nebraska, Colorado, Texas and back to Nebraska.
Mike had an expansive advertising career servicing accounts from local clients the likes of Russ's/SuperSaver, Runza and Anderson Auto Group to national brands of Coors Light, KeyStone, Coca Cola, Hewlett Packard and the National Football League. His most impactful role was that of Executive Director of Because People Matter. There he was able to see the direct benefit of his work, helping single parents, veterans and immigrants in need. He worked tireless to connect people with donated automobiles, furniture or food – whatever support they needed for a better life.
As rewarding as his professional life was, no greater joy was that of husband and father. The addition of Michaela, Emma, Katie and Robbie completed the Heller family. His pride for the accomplishments of his children was shared with all who would listen. And, the kids were just the excuse he needed to stay forever a fun, carefree youngster who would bring orneriness and an impish grin to everything.
He is survived by his wife Cassandra E. (nee Usher); daughter and son-in-law Michaela Bull (Dylan); daughters Emma and Catherine, and son Robert Heller; his father, Robert W. Heller; his siblings Tim Heller (Cynthia); Stephanie Durr; Lisa Hobday (Greg) and Kate Heller-Thomas (Brett); many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Deirdre; brother-in-law John Durr; uncle William Heller and grandparents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday April 29, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 7900 Trendwood Drive in Lincoln. Mike and I worked on HP and a few other projects at Integer. I really enjoyed working with him and giving him a bit of grief as he was pretty particular. We had some good laughs. He was a great guy. I'm glad I got to talk to him at the last Integer get together. I'm sorry we lost him at such an early age. Take care of yourselves.

I am so sorry for all the Heller family I have the privilege of knowing. He left you too soon, but you are a strong family and will be there for one another.

I played sports with Mike in High School. He was athletically and intellectually gifted, and performed as such on the field/court. Even early in his career, he was very smart about how the games were played, what his role on the team was, and consequently, could be trusted to do what was necessary to see victory.
He was a great teammate, and fine young man.
My condolences to the Heller family.
