Nathan Paulsen Obituary

Nathan R. Paulsen 19, of rural Crete, died unexpectedly Thursday, August 7, 2008. He was born May 30, 1989 to Ray and Laurie (Millard) Paulsen. Nate attended Crete High, graduating in 2007. He was currently attending Utility Lineman School at NE Community College in Norfolk.
He was loved and will be greatly missed. Nate was well-known as the teaser of the family. He loved basketball, football, hunting with family, and hanging out with friends. Nate loved being outdoors, talking about the bigger deer, and made bets with his friends which showed his competitive side. He always brought his best when competing in sports and even to friendly games of pick-up basketball. Four-wheeling was always a priority. When arriving at a friend's house, Nate would be the first one on the four-wheeler, especially when it came to mudding.
Nate always brightened up everyone's day. His smile was true and when people were around him, he made them laugh and be very happy. He always cared about others and was a great friend to those who knew him best. Nate took pride in his family and supported his brother and sister in their athletic events as well. He was always excited when going out West to see his family and came back with many stories about them and the adventures they had together. Nate was very easy to talk to and helped if he could when others had problems. He was a very respected kid around the community and held his head high when problems came his way.
Survivors: parents, Ray and Laurie, of rural Crete; brother, Aaron; sister, Kaitlin, both of rural Crete; grandparents, Gary and Barb Millard, of Emerson; grandmother, Rose Marie Paulsen, of Emerson; great-grandmother, Bernice Fendrick, of Winnebago; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and special friend, Aleece Kastanek. Preceded in death by his grandfather, Orville Paulsen.
Funeral Services: Monday, August 11, 2008, 10:30 a.m., Heckman Auditorium Doane College, Crete. Fr. Paul York and Fr. Julius Tvrdy officiating. Interment: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Crete. Visitation: beginning Saturday 5 - 9 p.m., Sunday 1 - 5 p.m., Kuncl Funeral Home, Crete. Rosary: Sunday, 7 p.m., Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Crete. Nathan, Jordan Boston, Adam Kuss and I all live in Westwood’s throughout Elementary school and some of High School. We would hang out after school often, more so in Elementary school. I remember one time in the winter it had snowed and Nathan, Jordan and I were playing by the creek down behind Adams. We were walking along and Jordan decided to walk on the ice to see how deep it was. Nathan and I just stood on the side and watched. All of a sudden Jordan fell through. It wasn’t that deep of course about up to his hips. Nathan and I were laughing so hard and Jordan was yelling at us to help him, but we couldn’t because it was so funny. Finally we helped him out and walked with him back up the hill to his house (Jordan soaking wet) laughing the whole way. We always had so much fun together. Nate you will be greatly missed by many. See you someday!
