Ronald Feyerherm Obituary

Ronald Orville Feyerherm, 71, passed away peacefully on June 13, at the Tabitha Nursing Home in Lincoln. Ron was born in West Point, Nebraska, on December 31, 1952, the first-born child of Orville and Olga Feyerherm. Ron grew up on the Feyerherm family farm south of Beemer, Nebraska, with his five brothers and one sister.

Ron's education began at Immanuel Lutheran School, where he discovered his love of learning.

In third grade, Ron read all twenty volumes of the World Book Encyclopedia. Unlike many of us who read and then forget, Ron retained the information and could recall details from books he had read decades earlier.

When Ron was a student at West Point High School, he excelled in all of his classes, especially math. His score on the ACT was second highest in the state. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln but left and later joined the Air Force, where he discovered his gift for photography. On film, Ron captured stunning scenes of people, places, and events from real life that others might have overlooked.

After leaving the Air Force, Ron spent 27 years with the US Postal Service. Ron frequented the public library and always left with an armful of books - on a vast array of topics. There seemed to be no subject that Ron did not have a desire to learn more about. After retiring from the Postal Service, Ron had even more time for reading.

Ron's love of learning was only surpassed by his love of giving. His generosity went above and beyond, and his greatest joy was helping those in need.

In keeping with his spirit of giving, he donated his body to research at the Medical School in Omaha, NE, and requested no service be held.

Ron was married to Margarita Medina in 1982, a marriage that ended in divorce, though they remained friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Olga Feyerherm. He is survived by his siblings; Karen and husband Clyde Summerville of Seattle, WA; David and Kathy Feyerherm of West Point, NE; Curt and Shelly Feyerherm of Olathe, KS; John Feyerherm of Bennington, NE and friend Becky Cattau; Alan and Vivian Feyerherm of Vienna, VA; and James and Teresa Feyerherm of Hays, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

Sounds like an exceptional soul with a well-lived life. I didn't know him, never met him. Wish I had had that pleasure. My sympathy to you who survive him, and I know how proud you must be of him.

I worked at the Post Office with Ron. He was always very nice and work conscious. He will be missed. Rest in peace Ron!
