June 28, 1954 - March 3, 2025
On March 3, 2025, we bid a tearful adieu to a compassionate soul, Shelley Renee Portis, affectionately known as "Speshel" to everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Portis, who will forever treasure the memories they made together; daughter, Paula (Scott) Carlson; grandchildren, Katey (Tyler) Jambor, Hayden, Kennedy, Leah Carlson; great-granddaughters, Penelope, Amelia Jambor; mother, Kathy Herrington; siblings, Donna Shepard, Julie (Jim) Meyer, Mike Herrington, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Don Herrington; brother-in-law, Tom Shepard.
Family greeting friends in honor of Shelley from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2025, Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 5200 R Street. Memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Colonial Chapel, 5200 R Street.
A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Lincoln Firefighters Reception Hall, 241 Victory Lane, Lincoln, NE.
In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Nebraska Humane Society, or Friendship Home.

Our world will not be the same. Shelley always brought a smile to our street as she walked one of her beloved dogs. We looked forward to those sidewalk visits. There are so many memories of working football and Shelley making sure we all had some popcorn. Love and Prayers for Jim and all of the family. We share in your sorrow and celebrate a wonderful, beautiful person.
