Stephen Grenier

January 19, 1947 – July 22, 2024

Dr. Stephen Grenier, age 77, of Leesburg, FL, died in Lincoln, NE while visiting family there. He was born in Crawford, NE to A. Ralph Grenier and Margaret E. (Roach) Grenier.

He graduated from Blair HS, UN-L, the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, and the University of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He served in the U.S. Navy as a General Medical Officer from 1974 to 1976, and was stationed at 29 Palms Marine Corps Base, CA.

He was a family doctor in Lincoln from 1976-1998 except for a one-year sabbatical in London. While in Lincoln, he also founded and staffed the People's City Mission clinic from 1978 to 1986. He practiced in Branson West, MO from 1998 to 2003. After that he retired from medicine and taught at several Christian schools in San Antonio, TX.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn; and family: brother, Daniel and Carol Grenier of San Diego, CA; children: Clarice and James Grabau of Northfield, MN, Joshua and Rachael Grenier of Lakewood, CO, Wendy and Douglas Barnes of San Antonio, TX, Samuel and Angela Grove of Lincoln, NE, and Emily Grove of Leesburg, FL, and Shane McGouryk of Clermont, FL. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren.

In his lifetime, Dr. Grenier got much satisfaction from being an ambassador for Christ, serving and encouraging his family, patients, students, friends, and strangers alike. His later years were devoted primarily to Bible study and prayer and 'abiding in the love of Jesus' (John 15:9) Psalm 23 was one of his many favorite Bible passages.

Having moved to Lincoln, NE from NYC to attend UNL, I met Steve along with Bing Chen. We socialized together, eating at the same dining hall, playing basketball, etc. Steve was very friendly - easy for others to like.

We lost touch after leaving UNL but reconnected several years ago through Bing Chen. We communicated through phone calls and emails. His religious conviction were very strong, putting belief into action with his medical skills and volunteer work to help others. Steve was a wonder full person loved and appreciated by many. He will definitely be missed.

Dr. Grenier was my family doctor in the late 1970´s in Lincoln. At the time I was a single parent with a toddler. I was ill and needed to be hospitalized but resisted as I had no one to watch my child. Dr. Grenier offered to watch my son to allow me to go into the hospital! I ended up having other arrangements to take care of my son which allowed me to take care of my medical needs but I never forgot the Dr.´s generosity! We were both Christians and never forgot to talk about how the Lord was working in our lives! I´m sure Dr. Grenier is celebrating finally being at home with his Lord God and savior! Condolences to all the members of his family!

I remember him, he lived next door to me on Franklin St, my best memory is me calling him up and asking him if he would take a look at my son, Dr Grenier had just come home and he came next door to see my son who had fallen and hit the back of his head on a cement floor, I was a young mom and had no clue my son had a serious concussion, Dr Grenier examined him then called St E´s and got emergency care for my son. Thank you Dr Grenier for the man you were.
