Terry Alan "Terrance The Coffee Man" Reis

Terry Reis Obituary

Terry Alan "Terrance the Coffee Man" Reis 60, Cordova, crossed over Wednesday (07/16/08) at home from complications due to pancreatic cancer. Born June 27, 1948 at Lincoln. Attended Lincoln Southeast High School; Veteran, U.S Air Force; serving during the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he moved to California where he managed Silverman's Clothing during the 1970's and later found his true calling "romancing the bean" as a coffee roaster for Dietrich's Coffee from 1987 to 1996. In 1996, he moved back to Lincoln and opened Coffee Culture, where he continued to share his passion and knowledge of the industry. He was a loyal Roy Rogers fan and loved the old west and military history; an avid reader, writer, movie buff and herbalist. He enjoyed surfing the web, traveling, good conversation, and the company of friends and family. He was kind to all creatures great and small. A true renaissance man.

My sincere thanks and gratitude to all of you who sent cards, emails, called and/or attended the Celebration of Terrance's Life. Your condolences and comforting words and actions have warmed my heart and touched my soul's core. Terrance cared deeply and passionately about his family, friends and clients, so know that he is with you always... joining in when you are sipping a cup of coffee or discussing politics or just having a quiet reflective moment. He is with us always.

Take care,
Di

I am so sorry to learn that Terry has died. He was a kind and gentle man, and I liked him very much. I was really sad when the Coffee Culture closed.

After years of looking, I finally found his buisness card today while packing to move. I tried to call him. Then I looked for him online. That is when I made my sad discovery.

My heart and prayers are with you.

On behalf of the Lincoln Memorial Day Observance Association (LMDOA) we would like to express our sincere sympathy on the loss of your loved one. A man of great courage who served in our nation’s military , so that we may have the freedoms we enjoy in America today. Each year, a Candlelight Vigil is held on Memorial Day night at the Antelope Park Veterans Memorial Garden, 30th and “A” Street in Lincoln. At this time, all names of veterans of our Armed Forces, in Lancaster County, who passed away since the last Memorial Day Candlelight Service, are read in a solemn ceremony. Terry's name will be read at this time. We invite you to come out for this service and bring your family and friends. (Bring lawn chairs)

It's hard to believe such a vibrant man is gone. Di, I'll be thinking about you, you are a strong person. Terrence made the best coffee I've ever had. I'll never forget watching him pull a sample of beans out of the roaster, shake his head, put it back and pull it out again later..."now it's done." It looked the same to me! He was so proud of the quality of his coffee that he wouldn't let me buy more than a quarter pound; if I'd bought more I wouldn't have used it before the flavor started to change. Coffee Culture was a favorite spot for me...baristas yelling "Full City!", pictures of rabbits on the wall, and of course Terrence and Di...and their matching tatoos. I miss him.

Terry, I believe we were friends many years ago. I lived in College View on 52nd St. We used to ride bikes together in the neighborhood. My friends told me how great your place was and I am greatful to know what a tremendous life you have lived and how you touched so many by your love and character. God bless you and your family and a memory of 50 plus years ago of you and others; in our neighborhood, will never pass. May you rest in ever lasting peace. Bill Snyder.

He was a good man with a great, caring heart. I was sad to see Coffee Culture close. I loved his white mochas & "cultural awakenings". Terry will be greatly missed.
Sincerly,
