Thomas Wright Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Wright

LINCOLN - Thomas "Tom" Wright, age 78 of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away December 18, 2024 at Bryan Medical East Campus surrounded by family. Born in 1946, in Deshler, Nebraska, to Clarence Wright and Myrna (Corliss) Mack who preceded him in death. Tom is survived by his loving high school sweetheart and wife of 57 years, Mary (Helget) Wright; his son and daughter-in-law Scott and Heather; his four grandchildren, Palmer, Tenley, Hogan, and Nicklaus; his brothers Gerry and Don (MaryBeth) Wright, brothers-in-law Bob and Gene (Liz) Helget, and Larry Small; his sister-in-law Elaine Werner as well as many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Hebron High School Tom began learning his lifelong trade of being a jeweler and jewelry designer. He was proud of his many accomplishments within the jewelry business, including earning the title of Certified Gemologist Appraiser Emeritus with the American Gem Society, where he served on their board of directors for 11 years. Tom also served as President of the Nebraska/South Dakota Jewelers Association. His true passion was designing the perfect piece of jewelry – his "Ribbons of Gold" – for each customer, which also earned him several state and national jewelry design awards. He was also proud of his civic involvements, including his work with LIBA, Downtown Board of Directors, and many other organizations.

Tom was an avid golfer and hunter who occasionally enjoyed painting, fishing, and Keno, typically with close friends and a Miller Lite in hand while doing all these things. But what he really enjoyed was socializing with friends and family (also with a Miller Lite if the occasion warranted it!) Tom would want us all to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing. Remember the good times, tell all the good stories, laugh, and enjoy celebrating a life well lived.

The family will receive visitors at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1940 South 77th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. Tom's Family will lay his ashes to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Lincoln. In Lieu of flowers, memorials to Special Olympics Nebraska, the April Sampson Cancer Center, or to the family for future designation.

Condolences can be sent to www.bmlfh.com Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.

Sad to hear about Tom. I was fortunate to have known him for 40 years, being in the Jewelry Business. He helped me out a lot, almost like a mentor to me with his professional knowledge. I had the pleasure of golfing with
Tom & Mary during our conventions, Don't remember if my scramble team ever bested Tom & Mary. Tom & I did socialize, with the common bond being Miller Lite.
God Bless & give comfort

I have so many fond memories of Tom attending various industry events over the years. From serving together on the AGS Board to seeing each other at the Gem Show in Tucson or the Jewelry show in Las Vegas. Tom always greeted me with a warm smile and more often than not he would add a nice compliment on something he had heard or read about. Most recently, he was a big encourager in me pursuing my hobby as a landscape photographer. Thank you, Tom, for your friendship over the years.

Tom and Mary worked my now husband and I on our wedding set. They had such a lovely store and were great people to work with. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.
