Vinson Allen Bittinger

Vinson Allen Bittinger, 100 of Lincoln, formerly of Clarks and Central City, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2022 at Independence Houses Northview in Lincoln, NE. Vinson was born July 20, 1921 to Otis A and Fannie (Bird) Bittinger in Clarks. He graduated from Clarks High School is 1940, married his high school sweetheart Margaret K Hayes on April 20, 1942 in Omaha, soon after he was drafted into the Army / Air Force where he served in the Pacific Theater until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Clarks where the couple became the owners/manager of the Clarks Telephone Co. for 41 years.
Vinson was very active in the Clarks Community, serving on the Clarks Public School Board of Education, Village of Clarks Town Board, Clarks Vol. Fire Dept. for 30 years. Helped to organize the Clarks Rural Fire Dist., St. Peters Parish Trustee, Calvary Cemetery Board and Sextant, Charter life member and helped organize the Clark VFW Post 4832 where he served as Commander and Quartermaster. Member of the American Legion Post 6 in Central City, Trustee/Director of the Merrick Foundation. Member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and spending his retirement years wintering in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Their true love were the many dances they attended with their dear friends from the Central City area.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Margaret, oldest son Michael V Bittinger of Salina KS, parents and a sister Margaret Palmer of Sun City AZ. Survivors of the immediate family include, two sons, Tom Bittinger of Lincoln, Tim (Cindy) Bittinger of Raymond, daughters, Pat (Greg) Cline of Lakewood, CO and Mary (Gary) Anderson of Council Bluffs, IA. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am, with visitation beginning at 9 am on Tuesday, May 10, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Clarks, NE. Burial with full military rights at Calvary Cemetery of Clarks. Memorials to family for a later designation. Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home in Lincoln are in charge of arrangements.
