Alan Cameron

1947 - 2025

Dr. Alan Bart Cameron, Sr., passed away after an unexpected medical event in Minneapolis.

Born in Shelbyville, Indiana, Alan was raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where his father, Cecil (Bo), was a celebrated wrestling coach and science teacher, and his mother, Marianne, taught foreign languages and organized for political causes including the League of Women Voters.

A devoted Hawkeye, Alan completed his undergraduate degree and his M.D. from the University of Iowa. He spent the next 50 years providing medical care, with long-standing practices in Waterloo, Iowa, and Racine, Wisconsin. He frequently worked extensive shifts as an ER doctor in underserved communities into his 70s, as he loved helping people and solving problems. He settled in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he was known as "Doc." As long as his health would allow it, he curled at the Racine Curling Club and kept English bulldogs as pets.

Alan started a family with Mary Bridget Murphy, with whom he shared three children. In 2005, Alan married Kathleen Kuha. Approaching retirement, with his wife's patient assistance, Alan managed to build a second home in his beloved Cromore, Scotland, on the Isle of Lewis. In retirement, Alan was a proud father and grandfather, and he enjoyed writing and folk music.

Alan is survived by his wife, Kathleen Kuha Cameron, of Minneapolis, his brother, Paul Cameron, of St. Louis, his children, Ethan (Lisha) Cameron of Mesa, Arizona, Bart (Laila) Cameron, of Reykjavik, Iceland, and Abbey (Alfredo) Hernandez of Prosper, Texas, along with 11 grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Bradford Community Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin, October 25, at 1:30 p.m.
