Elaine Barry Obituary

Elaine Genevieve (nee Oteman) Barry

RACINE – The beautiful, humble, loving and precious life of Elaine Genevieve Barry was transferred to heaven for eternal life in the early morning of September 21st. So beloved by anyone who met her and especially by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren we celebrate her new life with Jesus and so many loved ones, including her husband Peter, her son, Jim, her parents, Genevieve and George and her siblings, Mary, Jean, Martha and David.

Her surviving children include Dr. Patricia Bachhuber, Annie Barry, Sally Fongaro (John) and Roberta Stark (Jim). Her grandchildren remain to miss her and are Laura Holyoke (Michael), Jane Tomsich (John), Genevieve Kane (Ian), Taylor Barry (Eddie Olvera), James Stark (Virginia), Emily Bachhuber and Peter Barry (Grace Angus). Her great grandchildren are Elaina, Maria, Peter and Everett Kane and Paul Tornsich. Her siblings, to mourn her loss and celebrate her new life are George Oteman and Caroline Kramer.

Elaine always said that she was born to be a mother, and we agree and are grateful that we were the beneficiaries of her vocation. She was an extraordinary grandmother and recently enjoyed the addition of great grandchildren.

She was a graduate of St. Catherine's High School in Racine, and it was there she met Peter. She was a daily Mass participant at St. Rita Catholic Church and in the last few years was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her faith, Mass and communion were cornerstones of her life, and she took all the love of Jesus out to the world where she lived. Her faith was never wavering through all of life's journey and along with these, her gratitude, simplicity and precious silliness were gifts to and models for her children and grandchildren.

There are people to thank for their special devotion to Elaine, and they include Dr. Tom Bachhuber, Deacon Ed, and her primary caregiver Jayne Thompson. Jayne was there for our mom at the end of her life's journey and gave her the dignity and love that we all feel is in the category of a miracle in mom's life.

At the end there were Compassus Hospice providers, Vesna, Angie, Emily and Madison who came in and loved immediately with their care. These are people that our family will never forget. The priests of Sacred Heart and dear friends and neighbors of Elaine were also sources of so much comfort and love when she was declining in those later years.

Elaine's service was private for the family on October 10, 2025, with entombment held at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum. Donations to any charity of your choice in Elaine's memory would be so appreciated.
