Kathleen Cuccio Obituary

Kathleen Bethel Cuccio

August 22, 1933 - September 24, 2024

RACINE - Kathleen Bethel (nee: Sweetman) Cuccio, 91, passed away September 24, 2024, surrounded by family.

Kathy was born on August 22, 1933, in Racine, Wisconsin, to George and Bethel Sweetman, the youngest sister to three brothers–Jim, Tom, and Jack.

While in high school, she met Joe Cuccio, the "most handsome man she ever saw," who would become the love of her life. The two wed on June 27, 1952, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Racine, and over the next nine years, Kathy gave birth to four children–Joe, Joleen, Jon, and Joan.

Together with their growing family, the couple began to spend time in northern Wisconsin, eventually acquiring a small cabin that would become the heart of family life for many decades. Joe and Kathy were happily married for 57 years until Joe's passing in 2009. In her final moments, as her loved ones played the couple's cherished songs to comfort her, Kathy took her last breath.

In addition to her husband, Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, George and Bethel (nee: Pottinger) Sweetman as well as her three brothers and their wives.

She is survived by her children, Joe (Mary Ann) Cuccio, Joleen (Jim) Carlson, Jon (Sue) Cuccio, and Joan (Kevin) Watson, along with seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, and their families. She will be greatly missed by a loving circle of extended family and dear friends.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, with a funeral service immediately following. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.

The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Monica's Senior Living for their care and compassion. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 West Sixth Street, Racine, WI 53405; Pedal for Alzheimer's, 714 S Gay St #200, Knoxville, TN 37902; or St. Monica's, 3920 N Green Bay Rd, Racine, WI 53404.
