Larry Beebe Obituary

DENVER, CO - Larry Beebe, 73, died on May 16 from unexpected complications as he battled lung cancer with optimism and grace. A long-time resident of Racine as an SC Johnson executive, Larry retired to the mountains of Colorado where he happily indulged his love of skiing, hiking, jeeping, photography and giving back to others. A graduate of Northwestern University, Larry began his career at the “Wax Works” as an intern and retired more than 30 years later as an officer of the corporation. His long career included international management roles in South Korea and England and leadership positions in both the Consumer and Professional divisions. In any role he undertook, Larry celebrated the talents of the people around him and believed the friendships he formed were the true measure of his success. Wherever he called home Larry volunteered often and enthusiastically. While in Racine he was particularly supportive of the Racine Art Museum; in Colorado he served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Summit Foundation and chaired the organization's Grants Committee and Strategic Planning Committee. He was a former board member of the Lake Dillon Foundation for the Performing Arts and most recently volunteered his time for Project Angel Heart, which this year will deliver meals to almost 3,000 Colorado residents living with life- threatening illnesses. In 2004 the HF Johnson Community Service Awards honored Larry's commitment to giving back to others. Larry is survived by his husband, Cyril Bacani, who ensured that Larry's last years were anchored in the knowledge that our lives are most meaningful when they are grounded in truth. Larry is also survived by loving family and friends who delighted in his intrepid heart and in his kind and giving nature. He was predeceased by his parents and by a succession of beloved dogs who surely raced to meet him as he crossed the bridge from this adventure to the next. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at his Denver home on his birthday, June 11. In honor of Larry, memorials to the Racine Art Museum or Project Angel Heart of Denver, Colorado have been suggested.

Larry, so quiet and graceful. A joy to be near. Rest, sleep until God's great day, I'll see you over the bridge in the meadow of heaven. Joe Ann Hancock

My condolences to the friends and family of Larry Beebe: Not having personally known Mr. Beebe, it is clear that he touched many lives and will be truly missed. It is never easy to lose someone dear to us but may you draw strength from the "God of comfort" in the days and weeks to come.

Larry was a valued friend and co-worker at SCJ. Sad to hear of his passing. His spirit and contributions will endure.
