Laurie Carter Obituary

Laurie Ann Carter

April 24, 1947 - October 30, 2024

RACINE – Laurie A. Carter, 77, passed away at Ascension All Saints on October 30, 2024.

A lifelong resident of Racine, she was born on April 24, 1947, the youngest of nine children to parents Herman and Dorothy (nee Kohlman) Blommel. Laurie was a truly caring, kind, and selfless person who was well-loved by anyone lucky enough to know her.

Laurie graduated from St. Catherine's High School in 1965 and received her bachelor's degree from Dominican College of Racine. She worked at St. Mary's – All Saints Hospital as a medical technologist for 48 years and was well-regarded among her peers. She was a longtime member of St. Rita Catholic Church, where she served as director for the athletic program, as well as working the church festival for many years and volunteering as a Girl Scout leader.

Laurie met Ron at a party and the two were married on December 27, 1969, at Holy Name Catholic Church. As a couple, they were always very social. They frequently traveled, went to dinners, attended events with family and friends in addition to hosting many card nights, dinners, and family holidays in their home. She especially enjoyed the vacations she was able to take with her sisters and dear friends. They also enjoyed quiet nights at home, watching movies and shows together.

Laurie was informed and intelligent. She loved to read the daily newspaper, thrillers, and the next selection for her book club, especially if it were a Kristen Hannah novel. She enjoyed working on puzzles and playing games, like cribbage, with friends and family. However, she was happiest in the company of her family.

Her greatest pleasure was in raising her children and visiting her grandchildren. She was a loving mother who cherished time with her children, Lynn and Don, and was always incredibly proud of their accomplishments throughout their education, their careers, and their families. She was a wonderful grandmother who attended her grandkids' birthday parties, sports games, band and choir concerts, and school events.

Laurie is survived by her husband, Ron Carter; her children Lynn (Mike) Ziegelbauer and Don (Elizabeth) Carter; her grandchildren Ryan and Kaitlyn Ziegelbauer and Elliot, Sophie, and Oliver Carter; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Laurie was preceded in death by her siblings, Bill (Mona) Blommel, Charles Blommel, Sr. Christine Blommel, Betty (Bob) Glassen, Mary Ann (Paul) Glassen, Marge (Fred) Maier, Dorothy (Bill) Moldenauer, David Blommel; her brother-in-law, Dave Carter; and dear friends Homer and Liz Lovely.

Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave, on Saturday, November 9, 2024, for a visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The celebration of her life and funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Marco Valentini officiating. Her interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park the following Monday.

The Carter family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Ascension All Saints for the professional and loving attention Laurie received while under their care.

Ron, I extend my deepest condolences to you and your family. I believe my husband Bill shared their educational experiences beginning at Holy Name School and continued through St. Catherine's all the way to Dominican College. I had the pleasure of meeting her at the Moose Lodge! God Bless her soul!
