Prentiss Robbins Obituary

RACINE - Pastor Prentiss Robbins, Sr passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Becker-Shoop Nursing Home with family and friends by his side. Thus one by one, the faithful soldiers of the cross are being called to their reward. He was born in New Albany, Mississippi on December 29, 1932 to the late Fred Robbins and the late Mamie (Judon) Robbins. He was educated in the Mississippi Public School System. In 1951, he moved his family to Racine and was employed by SC Johnson Wax and A&E Manufacturing after his retirement he started his own businesses - Robbins Investments, LLC and Robbins Cleaning Services. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP. He accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Union County, Miss. In 1958, he was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost during Sunday School at Little Macedonia Church of God in Christ, where he became a member under the leadership of Elder Walter B. Ingram. One of his greatest accomplishments in life was becoming Pastor and founder of Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ and Beautiful Gate Church of God in Christ. He served in various capacities in the Church of God in Christ such as Wisconsin Northwest COGIC State Sunday School Superintendent, COGIC National Delegate, and Security Advisor Board. Pastor Robbins Sr. was a magnificent Gospel preacher. Two of his many memorial sermons were 'Good News from the Graveyard and You Got What You Want, But You Lost What You Had.' He loved the Lord with all of his heart and quite often quoted his favorite scripture - "'If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14. " He also loved to sing songs one of his favorites being "You Got to Move, when the Lord Gets ready you Got to Move." In 2004, due to his health Pastor Robbins Sr. retired as pastor of Beautiful Gate COGIC and joined All Nation Pentecostal Prayerhouse, United Holy Church of America under the leadership of Pastor Virginia Lackey where he was a member until he was called home for his reward. Fishing and woodwork were two of his favorite hobbies he enjoyed, but neither of those was close to what he enjoyed most - which was praying and loving the Lord. Pastor Prentiss Robbins, Sr. will always be remembered for his love and passion for his ministry, sharing the words of God, and his enormous love for his family. Pastor Prentiss Robbins, Sr leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 27 years Jan Robbins, Seven daughters: Rev. Dr. Ruby J. (Bishop Dr. James) Washington of Atlantic City, NJ, Dianne (the late Eldgret) Howard, Evangelist Darlene (Elder Kenneth) Turner both of Racine, Mary Pat (Dean) Scott, of Woodstock, GA, Melinda Robbins of Hampton, VA and Minister Kimberly (Sherrod) Thomas of Newport News, VA and Veronica (Quentin,) Holmes of Meridian, Miss. I really wish I was able to be there for the service on today. I learned so much from your Dad as a child visting with the Late Mother Glover. I got saved at a revival, I witnessed the Power of the Lord and I led my first song at the age of nine all at Rose of Sharon COGIC. Ruby, Dianne, Darlene, Pat, Jr. , Mamie, and Kim I pray that the legacy of your father lives on within each and everyone of you! Be Blessed!
