NEW MUNSTER - Robert E. “Capt. Bob” Herda, age 72, peacefully passed away Friday December 7, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born September 13, 1940 to Raymond and Angeline (nee Kiefer) Herda in Salem. His early life was spent in New Munster and he attended Salem Central High School. On December 20, 1979 Bob was united in marriage to Judith Menken in Burlington. He was a lifelong resident of Wheatland and New Munster area working for Kenosha County Highway Dept for 32 years. Bob was dedicated to serving the community. He was a member of the Wheatland Volunteer Fire Dept for over 50 years and on the Wheatland Town Board for 14 years. Bob was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 126th Artillery National Guard serving at Ft. Lewis, Washington during the Berlin Crisis in October of 1961. Bob was an avid Packer Fan and enjoyed working on his woodworking projects for numerous family and community events. Bob is survived by his wife Judie, his children Kimberly (Andrew) Pozorski of Milwaukee and Michael Herda of Genoa City, and his step-children: Rick Menken of Bloomington, IL, Jim (Tami) Menken of Rochester, WI, Holly (Tommy) Jones of Montreal, MO, Kelly (Eric) Vorpagel of Salem, WI, 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother Wayne Herda of West Allis and a sister Sherlyn Patton of Milwaukee. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and one grandson Dustin Hill. The family has suggested memorials be made to Wheatland Volunteer Fire Dept. or Aurora Visiting Nurses Association Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Monday December 10, 2012 at 7:00PM at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday December 10 from 4:00PM until 6:30PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Wheatland Presbyterian Cemetery on Tuesday December 11, 2012 at 10:00AM. Bob’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Aurora Memorial Hospital, family members and friends for their care and compassion.
