William Novak Obituary

William 'Bill' Novak RACINE – William 'Bill' Novak, 57, died at home on Saturday, March 8, 2008. He was born in Racine on July 21, 1950, the son of James and Shirley (nee: Kvapil) Novak. On October 1, 1988, he married Kathryn (nee: Chobanian) Tomaloff. Bill graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1972. Bill worked at the family business, Novak Appliance, from 1975 until it closed in 1992. He joined his wife, Kathy as a licensed Realtor ® in 1993. Together, the team of Bill and Kathy Novak was affiliated with Prudential Heritage and Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage before finding their home with the ERA Newport Realty Corporation family in March, 2002. Bill was a member of the National Association of Realtors®; the Wisconsin Realtors® Association; and the Racine Board of Realtors®, of which he served as president in 2007. He had served on the Metro Milwaukee MLS Board of Directors since 2001. As part of their real estate career, Bill and Kathy were members of the Racine BNI Pacesetters. He was a proud baritone and also an assistant director of the Racine Dairy Statesmen; sang with several barbershop quartets over the years; and won two international medals during his five years with the Midwest Vocal Express Men's a Cappella chorus of Greendale. Bill was a Renaissance man who indulged many interests and hobbies. Film, science fiction, computers, art deco, motorcycles, radio, travel, literature and recently, gardening around the new home he shared with Kathy. These joys he shared with his family, friends, and especially his children. His truly was a life well lived. In addition to his wife, Kathy, his survivors include his daughters, Amanda (Patrick) Troutman of Raleigh, N.C. and Shana M. Novak of Boston; stepsons, Michael (Amanda Below) Tomaloff of Madison and Christopher Tomaloff of Racine; grandchildren, Noah and Lilly Troutman; his parents, James and Shirley Novak of Racine; brothers, Alan (Connie) Novak and their children, Ian, Alex and Anna Novak, Brian (Julaine) Novak and Kevin (Cheryl) Novak and their children Nikolaus, Jessica, Zachary and Jacob Novak; Kathy's aunt, Harriet Rosinski, of Racine; as well as the many dear friends that Bill developed relationships with throughout the years. Bill will be especially missed by his beloved "boys," Spats and Zed. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chuck and Gay Chobanian. A service celebrating Bill's life will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church (2000 W. 6th Street) on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Kathryn Brown officiating. There will be a visitation in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, March 11, 2008, from 5 until 7 p.m. and again in the church on Wednesday from 10 until 11 a.m. Memorials have been suggested to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000 El Segundo, CA 90245); Holy Communion Capital Fund (2000 W. 6th St. Racine, WI 53405); Harmony Foundation (225 W. Dear Kathy...! I'm so very sorry about Bill. He will always be a sweetheart!

I've only known Bill for a short time and we connected, sadly, over cancer issues. You with Bill and me with Greg. You gave me strength through kind words of understanding and with encouragement and... a hint of "here's what worked with Bill" and then I'd try it with Greg. Bill was a warrior against his cancer. He's been an inspiration to me. I wish Greg would have gotten to know Bill better, on a one-2-one basis, so Greg could see how Bill fought the good fight. I pray for Gregs strength & hope that Bill will be an angel for Greg as Greg continues his fight against cancer.

Remember...you are woman, hear you roar! Meow!!! You are strong and you can do anything!!!! Bill will help you find your strength to keep marching on & to hear the song in his heart!

God blessed you with Bill and now He wraps Bill in His arms to hold Bill and He will keep him safe and happy...no more cancer and no more pain.

Bill will remain in your heart forever and ever. I will continue to pray for you! You have a new heavenly angel to watch over you! Bill will always be at your side!

Remember...it'll always be summer for Bill and he'll be sitting on the porch, reading & enjoying the heavenly breeze!

With deepest sympathy...love & hugs, Di

Dear Kathy and family of Bill,
We want you to know our thoughts and prayers are with you. We considered it a priviledge to work with Bill the past few weeks. It was truely a blessing to see the faith and strength Bill had even with the illness he lived with daily. He was a very unselfish and thoughtfull person, who will truely be missed
God bless you

Bill will be sorely missed in the community at large, and most of all for those of us in the real estate community. Bill was a prime example of what a real estate agent should be in both knowledge, and service. I was proud to have been an "assistant" to Bill & Kathy when I first entered the business in 1997. I learned so much. I will always remember Bill's wonderful smile, cheerful disposition, beautiful voice, and willingness to help others. Because of who Bill was as a person, he will be remembered a thousnad times over, in thousands of memories of those he touched. I will be one of them.

Bill - you will be greatly missed. But I know the Baritone section in the Heavenly Chorus just got a big boost. You've been an inspiration in my years with the Statesmen. We'll harmonize again some day.

As one of Shana's teachers at Case, I was very impressed by the concern and interest in education expressed by both her parents. I also enjoyed discussing local musical performing groups with Bill at Open House, which he faithfully attended. He leaves behind fine children and step-children.
