Zachariah E. "Zach" Taylor

RACINE - Zachariah E. 'Zach' Taylor, 82, passed away at his residence Wednesday, October 18, 2006. He was born in Higginsville, Mo. on November 24, 1923, to Zach A. and Anna (nee: Posey) Taylor. On May 22, 1965, he was united in marriage to Helen J. Petersen. Zach served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in the European Theater. After returning from service, he graduated from the University of Arizona-Tucson. He was employed by the J.I. Case Company for 35 years in a variety of jobs and locations, most notably Sao Paulo, Brazil. He retired in 1982 as the Director of International Engineering and Manufacturing. Zach was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church and past member of the West Racine Rotary Club. Through his long-time work with the Boy Scouts, he was awarded the Pilot Award, Silver Beaver Award, and the Lutheran Church Lamb Award. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, and reading. Zach is survived by his wife, Helen; sister-in-law, Betty (Harold) Windler of Greenfield; brother-in-law, Arthur (Julie) Petersen of Racine; nieces, Ellen (Arny) Davis and Amy (Mark) Hartley; nephews, Tod Petersen and Dan, Paul, and Steven Windler; great-nephew, Adam Gilboy; and other great-nieces and great-nephews. Zach was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Schweitzer. Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 1015 Four Mile Road, on Monday, October 23, 2006, at 1 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Michael Mueller. Private burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the church on Monday from 12 noon until time of services at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association, Boy Scouts of America, or to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice Alliance, Lincoln Lutheran Respite Care, Dr. James Gierahn and staff, and for the in-home health care given by Terri, Judy, Pat, Ellie, Reena, Dawn, and Bette.
