A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.

Even as sickness took over your body, I will always remember and think of you as my strong grandpa (in mind and spirit). I'm so thankful to have had the chance to see you weekly over the past six years visiting you on Tuesday nights (sometimes for shorter visits than I would have liked). While I'm sad that your time has finally come, I'm elated for your homecoming. Love you always!

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I remember all the fun times we shared with Ollie, Ginnie, their kids and Ruth and Harry Dreblow and us kids. Many a hot card game. My condolences. Judy Berthold (nee Dreblow).

I miss him very dearly but have extremely fond memories. He wanted nothing more than to be with gramma again and his children that already passed. He's much more peaceful. I'm so glad he got to meet my husband before he passed. I love you, grampa <3

I love you Grandpa, and I miss you dearly. I enjoyed all the talks we had about Jesus. You are now with Him. Enjoy paradise; you deserve it!
