Alexander Fish Obituary

Fish, Alexander "Alex" Michael Passed away March 7, 2016 at the age of 21 in Barcelona Spain. Dearly beloved son of Christopher Fish and Kristin Eve (nee Slabey) Fish, loving twin brother of Genna Fish of Mequon, Wisconsin. Survived by his grandmother Elvera (nee Fautch) Slabey of Durand, Wisconsin, nephew to Stephen Slabey (Marjorie Merrimack) of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Paul Slabey (Jan Olson) of Menomonie, Wisconsin and Jonette Slabey of Las Vegas, Nevada. Dear cousin to Tyler Slabey of Eau Claire, Rachel and Matthew Slabey of Menomonie, second cousin to Geoffrey Chance (Lois) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and their daughters Natalie and Rebecca. Further survived by his great aunt Mary Ellen (nee Koebke) Fish of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, and second cousins: Margaret Fish of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Sarah Fish of Boston, Massachusetts. Preceded in death by his loving grandfather Richard Francis Slabey of Durand, Wisconsin, grandfather Raymond Michael Fish, grandmother Phyllis (nee Sveneby) Fish of Grafton, Wisconsin, and great uncle Odilon Fish of Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Alex was a first born twin on August 11, 1994 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended Mequon Junior Kindergarten, Donges Bay Elementary, Lakeshore Middle and Homestead High Schools. Diagnosed with Diabetes at the age of three, he never once complained about the day to day challenges of managing blood sugar. Not letting Diabetes define him, he was very active in sports, had many friends and excelled in the classroom. In high school, Alex was a member of the national honor society, graduated with high honors, participated in basketball and earned three varsity letters in baseball as a pitcher. Friends would describe him as thoughtful, kind, funny, and most of all - genuine. He was a junior at the University of Wisconsin - Madison where he was double majoring in International Business and Investment - Banking and Finance. Alex was very active at Wisconsin where he was the Treasurer of the Badger Diabetes Advocates, a member of the Capital Management Club, Society of Personal Investments, Fantasy Sports Finance Club, Sellery Hall Association and was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity. In early March of 2016, Alex was accepted into the University of Wisconsin - Madison Masters of Science in Finance program prior to graduating and was looking forward to an internship this summer as a Global Markets Analyst at BNP Paribas in New York City. Ever since Alex met Adri Cortes, who was a student from Barcelona spending his summers with a neighbor in Mequon that he later became long distance close friends with, he was especially fond of European Soccer and the country of Spain. His dream was to one day travel to Europe to study. He was currently studying at the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) International Business program in Barcelona. In just two short months he had made many friends from around the globe, and had travelled to Madrid and Seville, Spain, the UK, Switzerland, and most recently visited his dear sister who is studying in Florence, Italy. He was always well liked and admired by many as was evidenced by a memorial held in Barcelona on March 10th to an overflow crowd of students and the wonderful faculty and staff at CIEE. Alex passed due to complications with Diabetes. He will be missed by many, but we know that he would like for all of us to carry on his loving spirit, kind heart, and wonderful sense of humor. His legacy will be honored and never forgotten. Heaven has received a bright new angel and his family acknowledges the angels on earth that helped them deal with this difficult time, including dear friends Jane Westreich, Ashley McKeegan and Mithra Ballesteros, and others in Mequon. Alex's family also wants to recognize the caring angels at CIEE in Barcelona: Clara Rodes, Magda Bernaus and Elizabeth Pogoloff. And his family will be forever indebted to the Barcelona family of Bosco and Rosa Fonts and their children Anna, Maria, and Adri for the loving help and guidance that was provided during their time of deepest grief and confusion. A visitation to celebrate Alex's life will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Fox Point Lutheran Church, 7510 N. Santa Monica Blvd, Fox Point, Wisconsin. Funeral Service will be at the church on Tuesday, March 15 at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon at the church. A private interment will be held. The family also asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a yet to be determined list of organizations posted at the visitation and service.

"Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory over death through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Corinthians15:57)
May God hold you, Alexander's family, in his loving and protective arms as you walk through the "shadow of death."

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. What a tragic loss of a great person. I took care of him from the age of 3 years until he was 18 years and know what a kind soul he had and was a brilliant young man that will be so missed. If I can do anything for you or your family do not hesitate to call me. Elaine Parton, Nurse Practitioner Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Diabetes Program.

Kris, You probably don't remember me...roommates a semester at UWM. I don't usually look at obituaries but the last name caught my eye today and I remembered you both. I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for you loss. I can't imagine. It sounds like your son was an amazing young man and will be remembered by so many.
