We just learned of 'Big Al's' passing in November. We'd worked and partied with Big Al on the Alaska Dewline until it was deactivated in 1990. I first met him when he arrived on the scene in 1968, and during the ensuing years, had the pleasure of attending many, many of the outdoor BBQs for which he became famous. After retiring from his life in the Arctic, we'd meet up with him in his favorite city, Las Vegas, NV, to pull the slots and dine in fancy restaurants. R.I.P., old buddy.

I have 2 of his special hand made quilts. They are perfect even 35 yrs later. He is someone you won't forget. He was a pleasant person to have around. He made everyone smile with his excitement to have a cookout in the frigid far north the artic circle. Even though you had to wear your heavy parka in July you had fun that day. Glad I got to know you at Barter island, Kaktovik, Alaska.
Rest in peace Big Al.

Big Al was a kind and generous individual that I was lucky enough to have worked with for many years.
Al always had something that was his signature item, like his Pizza's (Enormous Pizza's with everything you could imagine on them), his BACQ (Big AL's Custom Quilts), and more. From time to time AL would special order in some corn from Nebraska (I think it was), and we would haul a BBQ Grill, Table, chairs, and all the fixings for a nice getaway down to the beach at which time AL would cook us up a feast. He transported loads of people, Budweiser, Good Cigars, and some whiskey (More known as "the Nectar of the gods"). Big AL always had a saying for everything like the following:
If you asked Big AL if he had this or that, he would say "you'll find Hens teeth before you will find that".
Big AL had a friend named Lancisco who Big Al would quote; "It's like Lancisco once said, you can cut'em short, but you can't cut'em long".
I will miss Big AL and I know he will be in the hearts and minds of many people.

I worked with " Big Al " in Alaska and enjoyed his company and hospitality. Truly a great and kind man who had a good line for almost any occasion or occurrence. I am writing this from the Radar Site where he worked for 26 years and we still have photos of his on the wall. Thank you for the laughs then and every time I tell a story about you. Steve Ferrell.
