Andrew "Andy" Schneider

Fredonia - Andrew "Andy" J. Schneider, 88, of Fredonia was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born on July 1, 1931 to the late Andrew and Margaret (nee Pierre) Schneider in Milwaukee, WI. He graduated from Boy's Tech High School in Milwaukee in 1950.Andy honorably served in the United States Navy aboard the DE USS Huse during the Korean War from 1951 until 1955. On September 17, 1955 he was united in marriage to Frances Balistrieri at St. Rita Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Andy worked as a machinist at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for 29 years, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed his retirement wintering in Leesburg, Florida for 25 years with friends. Andy enjoyed camping trips up north in the summer with family. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and taking care of his property. He was always keeping himself busy tinkering, he could fix and repair anything and enjoyed giving it to people in need. His favorite saying was "this is an old Navy trick". Andy was known as a recycler long before its time, and always coming home with more than what he brought to the dump. He was a lover of dogs especially his little pug Roscoe. The most important thing to Andy was his family and enjoyed watching the grandchildren's sporting events. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Those Andy leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 64 years, Frances "Chee Chee" Schneider; four children, Teri (Donald) Treichel, Andrew Schneider, Anthony (Mary) Schneider, and Thomas (Kathy) Schneider; ten grandchildren, Sara Hawe, Carley (Lee) Hallenberg, Sam (Liza) Treichel, Hannah (Nathaniel Rotes) Schneider, Maria (Mike) Thomas, Josephine Schneider, Anthony (Casey) Schneider, Veronica "Roni" Schneider, Joseph Schneider, and Samantha (Brandon Mueller) Schneider; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara (Paul) O'Malley and Vicki (David) Sacco; a brother, Wally (Mary) Schneider; a sister-in-law, Sue Schneider; a brother-in-law, Thomas (Jeri) Balistrieri; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Tom Schneider and his two brothers-in-law, Salvatore and Felix Balistrieri.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 521 Congress St., Newburg.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Such a wonderful person. Talented in many areas from fixing worn out electronics to fashioning iron work from various gardening implements. Andy was an uncomplicated person generous to a fault and thoughtful to those around him.His love shone through his family unit as he and his beautiful wife instilled in their children the true meaning of love, friendship and family.

It is with great sadness that Ben and I have learned of Andy'a passing. To us Andy and his bride were one of a kind. Humble , generous and larger than life.

With a twinkle in his eye, Andy would turn a forgotten implement into a work of art. He loved to teach in his own way explaining to me his technique in his tinkering ways. There was nothing that man could not fix!

Andy and Chee Chee became our friends during our winter's stay in Florida. We looked forward to the friendship and many tales of travel and life events told with a flavour that only this couple could tell.

We are forever richer for being introduced to Andy and his family.

Always a calm, loving presence, he was the perfect partner to Chee Chee. The consummate family man known to so many as "Papa". Why is it that almost all of my memories are you in profile? On the golf cart, bending down to a small child, down at the pond or in your workshop creating away. You may have been the world's best hugger. Thank you for all that you were and your ability to bring out the best in us. What a privilege it was.
