Arthur Anderson Obituary

Anderson, Arthur R. Arthur "Art" Richard Anderson, 70, resident of Cudahy, WI passed away peacefully on November 9, 2012, with family by his side after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. He was born on February 11, 1942 in Iron Mountain, MI to Richard and Bernice Anderson. He attended Marinette, WI schools, graduating from Marinette High School in 1960. He served with the Wisconsin National Guard. On March 31, 1964 he married Verna Kuehnau and together they raised their son and daughter in Ashwaubenon, WI. Arthur married Josephine "Josie" Ocampo on January 31, 200 and they resided in Cudahy. Arthur's lifelong passion for the railroad started at age four when he stated that he wanted to work on trains. In February 1961, shortly after turning nineteen, he was hired by the Milwaukee Road railroad where he spent the majority of his career as a conductor. He worked for the Milwaukee Road until its acquisition by the Soo Line in 1985. He continued his career there until 1987 when he became a conductor for Amtrak. He spent the rest of his 44-year railroad career with Amtrak until his retirement in June 2005. During his career at Amtrak he spent several years as the Local Chairman for the United Transportation Union. When not working on a train, Art could be found photographing them. He amassed a collection of tens of thousands of railroad photographs. Over his decades of service, Arthur touched countless lives throughout the freight and passenger railroad community. Arthur is survived by his wife Josie; daughter Cindy (Brian) Vien and grandson Dylan Anderson; son Michael (Kristie) Anderson and grandsons Derek and Hayden. He is further survived by his mother Bernice Anderson; three sisters Carol (Dennis) Kempka, Beth (Jim) Tomich and Sally (Ken) Matusek and niece Megan (Josh) Matusek-Lamp; and Josie's children Daniel and Diana Pineda. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard, infant sister, Ruth Jane and his former wife Verna Anderson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at St. Alphonsus Parish, 6060 W. Loomis Road in Greendale, WI, at 4:00 PM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 5:30 PM. Friends may also visit at Hanson-Onion-Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Thursday, November 15 from 3:00-4:00 PM with a funeral service at 4:00 PM. Burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette.

Art was my good friends father. He used to take pictures and 8mm shows of just about every football game I played in. His photo-room was amazing. My first train ride from Milwaukee to Chicago was on his run and I had a blast. The last I saw Art, he was dancing at the Heidel House. My deepest sympathies go out to Art's family. There isn't enough room here to say all that is in my mind but my sincerest condolences to Art's family

Truly sorry to hear of the passing of Art. The most unique person anyone could ever hope to meet. Praying his soul and spirit are at peace.

One of the most unique individuals you could ever have known. He always had the ability to make you laugh and was a great person to work alongside. I met him in 1971 on The Milwaukee Road and worked with him on Amtrak. We would always go for pork chops on Thursdays from The Union Station Cafe before 341.. RIP Art and take care of "the box"..

Had a lot of fun with my Good Buddy,
both at work and play. Best advice
He gave, was to get out of the frozen
tundra and go Amtrak. We will all
miss that impression of Wizner and that
great hearty laugh. Enjoy that high
rail, up there, Old Friend.

Art Anderson. The most unique friend in my life. Art was UTU LC in Milwaukee when I arrived as Crewbase Manager with Amtrak. I learned a lot from him, and admire him for his knowledge and personality. I will always cherish the memories and smiles which will live on with me and his friends.

Worked regularly with Art on Amtrak and was the engineer on his last run. "Down the stretch, here comes Clancy !" One of his favorite calls when we used to wager a little on CHI layovers. Rest in peace old friend.

Art was a very good friend to my Father
& they spent many hours chasing and
photographing trains, and of course,
going to a restaurant for breakfast!
They also watched pictures and slides
of theirs & others train photos!!
