Dear Ben,
A year has gone by since I've seen your smiling face and been able to talk with you. I miss our dinners in your kitchen that you made for me with your loving hands when I was done with work. You were such a wonderful gift to me, I hope you knew that. I miss you more each day and always will.
Til we meet again, my beloved son.

Ben, I will carry this weight with me for a long time. We were best men at each others weddings and you gave me gifts in life I could never expect to repay in full. The old saying works well here: they just dont make ones like you anymore. While you were with us you were many things to many people. To me you were my best friend, always in my mind's eye as you are now. I can only hope to see you again. Jim and Kathy: I just hope you never feel alone in dealing with Ben's loss. We all share it with you.

"It is still so new & all we see is the empty space, but that is not how it is in the landscape of the heart. There, there is no empty space & he still laughs & grapples with ideas & plans & nods wisely with each of us in turn. We are proud to have known him. We are proud to have called him friend." ~ Brian Andreas

Ben was generous, gifted, and loyal. In his short time he managed to influence many lives including my own. He is and will be missed by so many of us. Sending love and comfort.

Dear Hock family,

It is with heavy hearts that my family heard the news. My first, and fondest memories of Ben, go all the way back to elementary school when we rode the bus together, and my brother and Ben played soccer together. Ben always had a presence about him that made people smile and laugh. My entire family sends our thoughts and prayers to your family at this difficult time.

Jim, Kathy and Nicole, you all are in my thoughts & prayers during this incredibly difficult time. While I hadn't been in touch with Ben recently, I always considered it an honor to call him my friend. We shared some great memories over the years -- I'll always remember his laugh, generosity, quick wit, and kindness. He's gone entirely too early and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A THOUSAND WINDS

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awake in the morning bush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.

Kathy, sending you my love and hoping that memories of your Ben will keep you smiling. I will say a prayer for Ben, you and your entire family. Peace.

Jim, Kathy and family,
I just got a call from Steve who is in Arizona with the army national guard at this time with the awful news of his friend Ben. There is nothing to be said at this time except let you know we are praying for you that you might have the strength to weather this storm. Time heals wounds they say, but our children are with us wherever they are, if even in spirit. I remember the good times with the soccer team and the friends that Steve, Ben and Chris were. I have a wonderful picture that I will treasure always. If Steve could be there for you, you know he would be. He is in thought and prayer. For many years, he was at your house more than at home and thought of you as his second family. Thank you for being there for him. God Bless You!!!

My dear friend Benny....the feelings of distraught have engulfed me and feelings of pure sadness flow for the entire Hock Family and those of us who had the great pleasure of knowing you. Your intelligence and ease about life will always be remembered. The days of watching non-stop Fox News and days of playing Playstation will always be the memories most cherished. Your bright smile and quick wit are characteristics that surpass any others I have been in contact with. My heart breaks....and I only wish that I could have been more in contact over the last 8 years. The times we spent in recent years on Sanibel will be memories not easily let go. Each time I watch a Badger, Packer, Bucks, or Brewers game, I will ALWAYS remember the times we spent at the field or arena. The Hock Family has ALWAYS had a special place in my heart and will continue to do so. So many times we go through life forgetting what true friendship means.....You had my undivided friendship and you always will. Make sure to give a BIG hug to your brother for me and tug on that rope with Blu, as well. Though the best place is here on earth, the better place you are experiencing. We will meet on the otherside and save a spot for me, so I can have more GREAT times with you and Adam. I am at a loss of words for Kathy, Jim and Nicole....my heart will forever be broken. LOVE YOU GUYS!

where do i begin? Ben in middle school and highschool was one of the most influential people i knew.. guys wanted to be like him and girls wanted to be with him.. he was also the first kid i knew to get facial hair. A talented soccer player and a wit at an early age that was almost unreal. I hadn't kept in contact with him much after highschool, but rediscovered him soon after on facebook where we would chat every now and then. I almost met up with him last february in sanibel but got too busy.. and i regret that now more than ever. As we aged.. Ben still kept his wit and charm.. and i could always count on his sarcastic witty banter on my facebook photos. I had my first experience with chewing tobacco with him.. and i have a fond memory of throwing up all over myself and having him laugh hysterically at me... thats what life is about.. memories.. no matter how little or trivial they are.. 15 years later i still remember with a smile.. ben made me smile and 100s of others to.. I thank him for that and his memories.. I will keep them a lifetime.. you were loved by many my friend, and will be missed Matthew Felker (Los Angeles, Ca)
